They used to light the oil on fire when they broke down.
Smoke signals, so someone could find them.

but i made a delvery today to a guys place that '' hoards '' older vehicles... and seen this gem,,, its a 57-59...

in not bad shape.. minus missing the whole front suspension

..IMG_20151119_102758667_HDR.jpgIMG_20151119_102813757_HDR.jpgIMG_20151119_102824044_HDR.jpgIMG_20151119_102834614.jpgIMG_20151119_102840889.jpgIMG_20151119_102856339_HDR.jpgIMG_20151119_102922602_HDR.jpgIMG_20151119_102933697_HDR.jpg

I'd be all over that 58 like white on rice. Set it on top of some retrofitted modern suspension with 4 wheel disc and rack n pinion.
Swap out the S6 for a 327

$2K wouldn't be terrible if its solid (frame too) body looks like just surface rust...how is it up close ? I know my son wouldnt have one hesitation of walking up and asking what he'd want for it. Whats the worst he'd say besides no sale or out of your price range...it IS close to Christmas...maybe he can use a few Benjamins .

from what i saw the truck looked damn good... inside the cab looked great. under the hood looked good, [ the original motor ] and as you said it had no rust.

looking into something like that will proablly be up my alley. in the distant future.. especially after i break my nails and start on these 2 builds and get myself real familiar with the in's and out's of these old chevy's

im sure that truck aint going no-where no time soon.

Hows the drivers side look? Looks like the Passenger door got a good sized wrinkle in it below the body crease so that should straighten out nice . Man, if I had the extra dough and a trailer, I'd do whatever I could to own that truck . Interior is just fabric and maybe some nice tuck n roll vinyl or leather. I'm sure a stock replacement for that would be just a couple online order clicks away. lol, I can already see what I'd be doing if I were retired.

Jeesh the nice finds down there.
The only old vehicles around here you find walking around the woods and trip over the rotten frame and bust your head open

its very difficult for me to save any money to get the first one in my yard....

my wife wants to beat me when she hears me say '' nope im saving for the ''truck fund '' when she asks me to get her a pack of store bought smokes,

she can smoke my home-grown,,, but if it dont say '' marlboro'' on the filter she acts as though they aint good enough for her, but when shes out she will sure as hell light up one of mine

i know they will both eventually make it here, im just a little impatient.. IM READY TO START TURNING WRENCHES.

well if evrything goes right.... and i can line the seller.... up with the guy who's gonna use his truck and trailer. and help me get it,,,

if they are both available then perhaps this sunday...... i just may have the 60' apache.... with the motor that aint locked down.. in my yard. so i can start bringing the motor back to life to see what condition it is in...

i done been on e-bay searching intake manifolds with 2...... 1 barrel carberatours on it... found a lot of them. of different brands... when the time comes. it will end up with the one that has the best '' shape'' for the engine compartment... they all look the same... just others have a '' curve'' type inlet passage. where others are just straight. from one end of the engine to the other,

and speaking of the engine compartment... it's mainly all '' straight '' angles.... instead of all the '' curves'' and rounded parts of a modern vehicle,

what i plan on doing there, is getting some thin roll of copper.... and cutting the suare... and pyramid shapes of the firewall... and inner fenders,, and screwing it to the entire engine compartment. so that when you open the hood... it'll be alluminum [ intake and valve cover ] '' shined''................. chrome.. the alternator... the brake resivour... the spark plug wire holders... the wing-nuts holding down the valve cover.

the spark plug wires will have aluminum braid loom over them,,,,,

so that when the hoods opened .. it will be copper lining everything... and chrome in the middle, with some shiny alluminum on the top and right side of the motor,

[ i found some chrome carberatours... but they were very expensive.....but late down the road. if im into the look... im sure i'll get them ]

been looking at chrome old school '' side pipes '' also... i think that truck needs that look, im thinking of going. with a '' flat '' or dull flat / satin black paint... and the cab in a very dark gray... just a little lighter than the black paint.. ive seen that a lot of trucks from that era have a 2 tone paint job. usually the body is one colour. and just the cab is another colour.

if my plan goes according to my ideas, '' the way a normal chrome hood scoop / air breather would stick in the very middle of the hood,,, if i go with these 2 carbs, and the scoop im looking at... would have it poking thru the hood... a lot more left than dead center, it would pretty much be a hair to the l right side of your head. looking forward [ as would be driving anything. picture the way you sit.. the scoop would be just a little to the right of your straight eyesight ]

well guys id like some input on what my vision is..
heres the truck. and some items i been looking at... intake manifolds... the scoop e.t.c.

well guys the 1960 apache is sitting in my yard...

it was bt no means easy getting it here, we had to use a JOHN DEERE tractor to get it on the trailer, and by that i mean we had to pick the truck up and back the trailer under the truck.

getting it off the trailer was just about as trickky.... we tied a strap to a big tree. and wrapped it around the front bumper. and dragged it off the trailer. until the truck started spinning,,,, then i hooked my semi to the truck and gave it a good yank. and it fell on the ground.

i think the brake drums are locked up. or the tranny is locked up. either way the tires werent moving,

today im removing the hood. and prepping the motor to crank it up. and see how / if it runs, [ after a good pressure washing of course ]

Wow, that whole description of your plans sounds great. I like the idea of the sidepipes and I believe the paint scheme you're describing is known as a "tuxedo" always a great look for the old iron. I can't wait to see it when you get it done.
