That Hav 425 should cure out OK and it will be interesting to see how it compares to the 142. The shame is that I did not get all my Have 425 leaf hanging because my heaviest workload hit just as I was getting into priming the seco leaves so I did not get 'em finished up, dangit.

BarG it weren't for our day jobs (and we could still pay the bills) life would be great...or at least better...but if we was retired, we would still be doing plenty of hard work in the heat with a patch 3 or 4 times bigger than we have now, but it would worth it.

The Havana 142 was one of the first whole leafs I smoked in cigs and cigars. If the Havana 425 is even close I'll be in Hog heaven. Not to mention the Havana 41.

I got a good set up where I can work 4 day weeks or less if I want. It took them a while to get me out of the woods and even leave the house.:cool:

Thank you SmokesAhoy! I shit you not if it were'nt for FTT it wouldn't look like that. I had no idea how much fieild work would be involved for this size and the robustness off this years crop. I had nearly as many plants last year and was lucky to have a row or two hit 3.5' tall. I had to reinvent my hanging area.

i must say,,,

'' IMPRESSIVE SIR'',,

the crop looks great,, no holes anywhere,{ i so hate hornworms, they thrive here in the swamp}
the hanging area, is very nice plenty of room to navigate easily around your leaves,{ my area is so tight, and with all the rain,, mold got me this year }
and your area, to hang your seed heads, bag and all is sweet,

so yeah im a little envious,

my next year plans, is to have a john-deere, in the yard, to bust my area a lot bigger, and with my new fertilizer job, i plan on the soil being 100% dialed in,

and hopefully get a gutted camper, real long,{ i seen one, but didnt follow up on purchasing it, and make it into my colour curing area, with a little help from some heat,and if it; is rainy neaxt year, or any upcoming year, i'll be ready<}

or im gonna build a big tin shed, with a dirt floor, for my curing only< so if it's wet i'll heat it,
and if it's dry, i'll moisten the bottom of the shed<

im glad to hear your havana turned out good, im itchin to try it as a cigg blend,
allthough i tried to grow it, the 2'nd grow plot got flooded, and it didnt make it,

but it may make it in next years patch, because a lot of strains, i got now, i wont be growing again, for certain issues,

They are just a mini mini version from what I see in commercial growers barns. Sticks with racks to hold them. But thank you just the same. I have 3' to the first rack and 2' there after. Barely enough for silver leaf and several other varietys.

The Havana 425 seeds came from Tom In Tennesse. I think he got them from smokesahoy. regardless that is a 5' plant easily with a lot of big leaves. I'll be sure to send you a lb when the leaves get fully cured.

I wanted to grow some h-142 this year but they were screwed up in my failed seed starts. It was nice of Tom to send me a generous supply of the H-425, Although I can't find much info or experience with it.

I can't even begin to describe the smell in the open air around my curing tobacco.

It catches me when I walk outside and is indescribable.
I want to say nutty or sweet but thats the closet I can come to it.

The Bursa and Ottoman have a very distinct indescribable smell.

Ahhh, simple pleasures! I've hung a "wreath" stringer of Ottoman in the house, Damn it smells good!

BarG, the Hav 425 came from OldVermonter. I think we are going to be the ones to add to the grow-cure-smoke details on this variety. He also send me some Golden Wilt. You have some of those seeds and should plant them next season. They grow really well, 6' to 8', don't sucker too bad, easy to color up and cure, resin content (stickiness) is through the ceiling, did not attract aphids and other bugs very much. OldVermonter claims they smoke pretty smooth 'n tasty after just an air-cure. It is a Flue-Cured variety so if you cared to do that it might just become a favorite leaf to smoke.

Hey, leverhead.....want me to send you some stink bugs??? (squash bugs really) 'cause I got plenty. This is one of their egg clusters.

BarG,

I just saw the pictures you posted about a week ago. Your rack system looks great! That gave me a good idea since I have limited curing space. You tobacco patch looks immaculate - how did you get the ground free of weeds?

I've been meaning to ask you if you had any stink bugs? If so what did you do about them.

LeverheadThey hang around my plants but do little or no damage that I can tell. If I find any eggs I scrape them off.

Tom, I never could remember where you told me the seeds came from on the Havana 425, Its curing nice but I should be getting some fully cured lugs soon. The golden wilt seemed to hate the Texas heat because It was one of my hardest varietys to get the seedlings to transplant size. I had some that made it real close to transplant but wilted down during hardening off. I managed to get 2 plants to survive but they are stunted. I will let them keep growing and see what happens.

SmokeStack, I tilled a new area for this years patch that was mostly bahaia grass and very few weeds to begin with. I tilled several times . Its hard to break up the bahaia because it will keep coming back, but when its tilled a few times with little or no rain it dies out pretty good. Plus I was lucky.:cool: I will need a good cover crop this fall or it will be full of weeds next year.

Chicken, You need to get your wife or kids to describe it to you in detail.

Its getting to where I can smell the curing tobacco from a long ways off.
