It didn't grow so well for me in vt but I don't think it was the plants fault, I want to try growing okra again.

They are starting to spread their leaves. Also, the camera angle is deceptive. They are spaced like all of my full-size tobacco (3.75 ft[sup]2[/sup]/plant). The peculiar camera angle was chosen to avoid showing the several puny plants in the bed. And the puny ones are not even yellow mutants. They are just slow. That is unfortunate, since I have only 8 VA Bright Leaf plants, and I need for them to mature in synchrony, for flue-curing.

Hello Bob, Haven't grown any tobacco for 3 years now . I still have a ton from previous grows and what I bought during group buys. I harvested over 500 ears of Ambrosia corn in the last week though, was the best quality crop in years. The deer cleaned out my peas nd beans again this year.

BarG, where have you been? I guess now that Texas has legalized hunting wild hogs from air balloons you've been pretty busy.

EDIT: That Nicaragua Habano group buy was 4 years ago! I bought 20 pounds, and ran out a long time ago.

Bob, I blanche about 2/3 of it and make cream corn and give the rest to my kids to share, this year I got most all of it fully mature with no bugs to ruin the ends of the ears using liquid sevin, I still have a lot of the group buy left, letme know if you need some. Same goes for you Jitterbugdude. I have been offline for quite a while, I just quit getting on computer since I got my tractor last year. Found I had a lot of things to do much easier clearing my property and such. It's been okay with the hogs, I got a half dozen this year and my first alligator. 400 lbs of catfish one weekend with my son in laws. will grow a tobacco crop again next year though. good to be back.

Some I cook and from the rest I make pesto.

My three named seed source Besukis are approaching a point where they can be compared. The Besuki Kesilir and Besuki Ambulu were both slower to grow as seedlings, and also seem a bit slower as transplants. That alone may account for the difference described here. One noticeable difference today is that the base of the leaf is wider for all the Besuki tabakanbau, when compared to the other two strains. All of the Besuki Kesilir and Besuki Ambulu look similar to one another, but exhibit a narrower leaf base. Once the plants have matured, I will photograph the leaf auricles, looking for consistent differrences.

Another interesting comparison is Corojo (presumed to be the original Corojo) from Honduras, vs Corojo 99 from Robaina. The surface texture of the leaves seems to differ.

Some I cook and from the rest I make pesto.
Just yesterday, I noted that about half of the Anka garlic had put up scapes. I will cut them in the next few days. My thought was to pickle them.

Corojo from Cuba has much thicker leaf than any other tobacco I grow. It is hairy.
Mine also look dark green compared to others.
Besuki from Indonesia (Tutu) is about three weeks in the ground. Almost no progress. But I will leave it and see what can deliver.

I will do that next year.
For pesto I took half pound flowers (scapes,like you said), tea spoon of salt and approximately 10 oz.best olive oil I have. I minced with stick blender as much as possible.
It can stay in glass like that many months, they say. It is my first time but I can share results later. For now it is divine good.

Off course, sorry, I borrow the name..my recipe is only garlic scapes.

And forget to mention. Garlic scapes needs to be dry, when you start. If you wash them you need to dry them well. I harvest them after rain so I didn't need washing. Dry !

When I sit in the chair at the top of my garden, this is my view. In the foreground is my bed of eggplant and would-be okra, now with Havana 322. Beyond it, the rank mass of vegetation is my Prime Jim blackberries, which I have not yet weeded this year.

Across the road used to be a dairy farm. Now it's a hamburger farm. Next door they have dairy goats and chickens. I find it relaxing to watch the cows and the goats. And the best part is that I don't have to feed them or clean up after them. The chickens (the rooster at least) wander around, and eat bugs from my garden beds.

Watching the movement of things that don't have 4 tires and an engine is good for the soul. A horizon that's not urban blight is also nice.
