Update on the late harvest, "chamber air cure", looking good. The Havana never yellowed, but is making a nice transition from green to brown.

I must admit that, perhaps due to the difficulty I have found in yellowing my plants, I have come to believe that going from green to brown nicely is not the worst thing in the world. Frankly, I would feel pretty weird smoking yellow tobacco.....Your leaf is coming along nicely!

The winter Prilep plants are growing, although not impressive. Still is fun to have a little green life in the winter. 14172834671770.jpg

Yes, it is nice to have a bit of green during the winter. What will you do with the plants in the pots...just let them grow through the winter? (I had a tobacco plant that lived for about 3 years or so on the windowsill - it flowered 2x a year. It was leggy, and the main stem had turned brown, looking like it was going to die, and then little green shoots would come from the brown stem, and the plant would continue on.) And what about your chamber air cure? How did that end up??

If the window plants don't do anything worthwhile, I will cut them back to get a sucker started and plant them out in the spring. The air cure is about done, I will get a pic when I get it in case for handling, maybe today.

GO BIG OR GO HOME.......theme for the year.

Cleaned out starting trays this weekend; almost time.

Even better though, I locked in my new growing area. Approx 20x100 almost level, well drained, and full sun.;)

Can't wait to see the results of better plant spacing and more sun vs. last year.

Looks Good, Shure beats running it thru a chipper. You have to at least hit 100 pounds this yr.
I have not even had time to pull my air dried down in the garage. Thank god it's not much 10 pounds maybe.

I wish it was close to 100. No scale but probably 70ish, lots of leaf cured thin and light. But there is a lot of pride in the smokes I tote in my pocket.

Damm straight on the Pride part. My wife's sister with her new boyfriend and mother were over yesterday for belated thanksgiving dinner. Rubin her boyfriend has been here twice before and put his Newports away and was smoking my smokes all day and night. He Said they tasted better.
I sold him a pinball machine but had to throw in a carton of smokes to seal the Deal.

Of course, your leaf is from known seeds, etc., but to what do you attribute to the thin/light quality of your leaf? Mine cured the same way. Also, in your photo, you have some pale green leaf in the top of the photo. What will you be doing with that? Some of my flue cured has cured that way, and I'm hoping it's salvageable....

I mentioned it somewhere else, I attribute the thin leaf to the TONS of cloudy days we had this summer. Full sun was just in short supply. Pretty much like "shade grown leaf" which is thin by nature, due to lack of direct sunlight.

The greenish leaf at the top right is the havanah that went from green to brown. The camera makes it look more green than it is. Hoping kilning will give some nice dark brown leaf when it is done.

I'm hoping this, too.....I'm still reading, reading, reading about the procedure, as about half of what I grew this year will need to be kilned. Wouldn't want to screw it up any more than it is already....
