Ebola seems to be pretty difficult toget when you think about it. First we had the guy from Liberia go to the ER in Dallas not once but two times. Think about all the people he was in contact with while waiting in the ER to be seen by a doctor. Not a single one of them has Ebola. Of the 8 people (or was it more?) that lived in his tiny apartment, none of them caught it. Then we have the workers then cleaned up the guy's house, the doctors and techs that treated him in the ER. I would estimate he probably was in contacted with at least 100 people. Two people get it. If my math is right we're looking at a 2% rate for getting the disease once you have been in contact (the same room etc) with an Ebola patient. Seems pretty benign to me.

And what the hell is wrong with this country anyway? Why would a nurse that was in intimate contact with an Ebola patient fly on a commercial jet liner within the 3 week incubation period? The entire flight crew was given a 21 day leave period from work. There were 2 children on board that plane. The schools the children attend have been shut down!

I want in on some of this action. Maybe I can get 21 days (paid) off work by telling my boss that I know I guy that knows a guy that lived next to a dog that pee'd on another guys lawn that knew a girl that used to live in Dallas.... therefore I might have contracted Ebola.

It's easier to get than HIV/AIDS and they went batshit crazy about the AIDS epidemic. Hell back then it was predominately in the gay community which is why it was called GRID (Gay Related ImmunoDeficiency). You had to have sex or a blood transfusion to get that and it doesn't have a 70-90% mortality rate. I will grant you that Ebola actually has a lower R0 (R-nought) value than AIDS, actually 2 and 4 respectively. R0 is the average amount that a single person will infect. So far it's holding true here in the US we'll just have to see how many these nurses may have affected, if any. Even with an R0 of only 2 it doesn't take long for 40 to have it, then 80, then 160........

Here's a little epidemiological paper on the current outbreak.

At least it's not like measles with an R0 of 18 and a mortality rate of 50%.

Actually they are going down...... Is this an attempt to ease the minds of stressed out WORKING Americans by diverting their attention from the current situation? Surely not..... Maybe the "powers that be" are smarter than we thought....
Gas always goes down just before an election.

...25 lbs of beans and 50 lbs of rice.
Since both dry beans and dry rice expand, when rehydrated and cooked, to about 3 times their dry weight, it looks like you need at least 25 lbs. more beans. If you're planning on chilli, then at 1/4 cup of chilli powder and 1 Tbsp of cumin per pound of beans, that would come to 6 cups of chilli powder and 2 cups of ground cumin. Then there's the thing about 50 pounds of preserved, ground beef.

Hmmm. Apocalypse sucks.

Now you're talking! I love chili, but you'd have to admit, that's a lot of chili! As far as the apocalypse, well, yeah I'd have to agree!

You guys seem to be missing one of the most important items in your apocalypse shopping.....toilet paper. A must have on every list I have ever seen. Although I don't think you can dehydrate it for easy storage. Stock up on this, and you will be quite popular with all the guys who are hoarding silver, just for this occasion. Remember, you will be bringing your wives along on this adventure, and women love toilet paper.....
