Which of the wholeleaftobacco.com whole leaf blends is your fav and why? What cig did you smoke prior to RYO

Hello everyone! I've been reading post on this forum for a few months and I finally decided to join. I know that I am going to transition to whole leaf as I am sick of the amount of money I spend per can on my American Spirit tobacco but I have a few questions before I place my first order from wholeleaftobaccodotcom. I have decided to just go with a few of their whole leaf blends and go from there. I've been rolling my own for the past 30 years with the occasional purchases of a pack or two here and there and I also vape. When I do buy a pack it is usually a pack of Pall Mall Red 100's or Camel Red Shorts w/filter. Years ago I was a fan of the Camel Wides as well. I know I am def ordering the "American Old Style Bold Blend" since I am a long time user of American Sprit Tobacco though I prefer the dark blue can. I will also most likely order the Virginia Blend since I also enjoy the Pall Mall Red 100's, Marlboro Black 100's and a few others along the full flavor 100 line and some light 100's as well. The main problem I am having is that I can't decide if I should go with the Turkish Blend or the Turkish Blend No. 7 so any info/advice you can give me to help me make a choice will be appreciated! Normally I would just get both but money is a bit tight right now so I am trying to keep my purchase at a minimum. I'd also like to know what your favorite Wholeleaftobaccodotcom "blend" is and why and what brand of cig were you smoking prior to rolling your own? If you have a favorite blend is it what you continue to smoke or did you move on to your own blend of whole leaf tobaccos? Hopefully I get some replies soon so I can place my order with confidence and thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum, and scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads. Both are linked in the menu bar.

Other members will have to offer advice on the cigarette blends offered by WLT.

Yes I've been busy reading various threads on the forum for the past couple months and finally decided to just join! Maybe if I also post my question along with an introduction I can get some more feed back! I was working on a post for that and it disappeared on me thanks to my phones memory being so full. So I cleared out some memory today and I am hoping that fixes the issues I was having. Anyway I am glad to be here and enjoying all the great info! I am super excited to try some whole leaf blends and perhaps eventually come up with my own. This is something I wanted to do for the last 30 years. I had also had wanted to grow my own tobacco as well. But life was busy and always got in the way... anyway thanks for having me And thanks for the reply!

Welcome to the forum from Canada. I am a pipe smoker so I can't comment on cigarettes blends, but I think you're gonna like all the WLT tobacco, regardless.
I think you are correct! I can't wait to try some! I held off ordering in hopes of getting the info I asked about but I think I will just place an order for what's in my cart now and I can just place another order after I decide which Turkish Blend I should try first! Or I guess I could just flip a coin try one now and the other later lol idk we shall see!

A pipe smoker I see! That's cool you can probably still help me out! I have a collection of old estate pipes! Do you know of a good place to have them appraised????

I saw a place online they were located in Georgia it seemed to be a decent place to try but now I can't seem to locate the website! They sold old and new pipes and did appraisals etc it seemed like it was a well run business does this ring any bells??? I don't know why I haven't come across it again and my oldest daughter lives diwn in Savannah so that was another reason I wanted to get in touch with them since I am not to sure I am comfortable sending them all through the mail and then they would have to be shipped back to me as well. Makes me a little nervous! But if my daughter collected them from me the next time she is home for a visit she could drop them off and pick them up and bring them back home of her following visit. That way I wouldn't have to worry about them getting damaged or going MIA in the mail!

Also, we usually delete duplicate posts. This is the right sub-forum for your question. It's been a weekend. It's a holiday week. Be patient.

Bob

Omg I totally didn't give a thought to the holidays that are pressing upon us! Heck I didn't realize it was the weekend until late last night when it was all but over! Between not celebrating the holidays and being retired I seldom know what day of the week it is anymore and these are things that are so relevant to most people lives and schedules. They have a huge impact on so many things and here I am in my own little world bumbling around looking like an inpatient self centered twit. How awful! Because I am nothing like that at all lol Having a darn iPhone hasn't helped me either! It doesn't display the day of the week on the "Home Screen" like my androids always did. So now I am totally lost most of the time now. I was just discussing this issue late last night with a dear friend after I realized it was the weekend late on a Sunday night! This has been a recurring theme with me lately. Smh and yes I was also just wondering a little bit ago if I mentioned my post in the cigarette thread about the whole leaf tobacco blends in question in an intro post if it would constitute a double post or not! So I'm not completely daft yet! Lol just a little slower than what I used to be. Btw nothing against the holidays. In fact nobody loved them more than me! There just isn't much of a reason to celebrate anymore around here and on that note I do hope everyone has a delightful Thanksgiving! Fell free to send desserts my way! Hopefully while everyone is busy carving turkey this week I'll be here shredding my whole leaf tobacco! I decided to place my order without the answers to my questions since I'll be ordering more in the future anyway the Turkish can wait until my next order! I thought about calling the business but I hate being a pain. So I'm just being one here! :/ I super excited for my order to arrive and I have three bags of OHM to sample until then I got the blue bag the natural and their Turkish blend. Honestly I am enjoying this blue bag OHM tobacco far more than I do my American Spirit. I'm shocked! I'll bust open the natural or the Turkish after my shower and give them a try yet tonight as well. The OHM was at the bottom of my list of tobaccos I wanted to try since it seemed to have such mixed reviews but it was the only one in stock near me that I had even considered trying. When I opened the bag I immediately could smell anise. My man was an avid Ouzoo fan the smell of anise and tobacco brought back many found memories. Certainly wasn't expecting that from a bag of tobacco lol God I miss that man! Had I not known that anise is something they case tobacco with I may not have noticed. Maybe being aware of that now made it more noticeable I am not sure though as the smell seems quite strong. Is it ok to freeze these types of tobacco? I know people used to keep packs of cigs in the freezer when they bought cartons... I have a feeling I am going to have a large surplus of tobacco here in the next couple weeks and I need to figure out how to keep it fresh! Since it's just me here now I have plenty of room in my freezer and fridge. If that is actually a good idea what is the best container to put it in prior to freezing it??? Also are there any special ways to thaw it once it's pulled out for use??? I haven't came across anything about this yet I'll dog so more but if you have any tips I'll take them! Thanks again!

You could post photos of your pipes in a new thread in the Pipe Smokers part of the forum.

There are lots of pipe smokers here who might be able to give you an idea. It would not be an official appraisal, but it might be fun.

I just may do that after I give them a good shine with some wax. I had them all cleaned up good years ago and most have just sat in my smoker stand ever since.

Btw China I was on another site the day after I saw you on here and came across you there in a thread I was reading. Small world out here on the web! I believe it was mainly a pipe smoking forum and the discussion was about women on the forum were they being run off etc it was quite a humorous read for a serious discussion! Lol I'm not sure how I landed where I was and can't remember now what the name of the forum was but there you were! PS Thanks for all the advice!

So I called and got voice mail. I left a message with a few question about the leaf I received but I haven't received a call back yet and I think it's been almost two weeks so perhaps I'll call again tomorrow before I place my next order! My first order arrived safe! I was wanting to know what leaves I was looking at in the blend and if they were of equal portion and was the casing that came with the blend technically enough to case all of that blend once it's shredded... could I just weigh equal portions and shred a little at a time etc etc maybe he thinks I was trying to steal his blend recipe but that is not my intention I am merely trying to learn about the different leafs and figure as time goes by I should be able to identify them by look, smell, taste etc and the casing is a very small amount that you add a small amount of water to is this all I need for the pound of blend it came with or will I be needing more to case all of it. Anyone around here make their own casings? Is it more doable amd cost affective and if so where does everyone buy those supplies at??? Have I drove anyone crazy yet!? Sorry if I have! Lol

I haven't done anything with the leaves/blends I received because of the burning questions I have! Which is fine at this point because I had also ordered some preshred bags of tobacco and I have successfully eliminated the exspensive American Spirit that I have smoked for years! I have already saved a couple hundred bucks so that endeavor was a huge success! I had tried some random blends over the years and all were quite gross that I selected. No there is so much more info online since more people are rolling their own cigarettes it was much easier to select a few brands to try that people claimed were similar to American Spirit or other cigs I would be fine smoking such as camels and Marlboros. So far I am finding the OHM In the blue bag and not only is it a suitable replacement to the American Spirit tobacco I've rolled for over 2 decades I am shocked to say I find i like it more as it has a nice smooth flavor and burns nice! So even if I never grind and blend my own as long as they keep making that tobacco I'd be good! I was actually surprised I also got their Natural blend and their Turkish blend thinking I'd prefer those over the blue bag and they were both a bit harsher and the flavor wasn't as good as the blue bag. I thought I was a Turkish girl since I have always loved my camels! But have since discovered it's not as Turkish as we have all thought. Correct me if I am wrong! I am here to learn so I will take no offense to anyones information, guidance or opinions! I also plan to try a few more preshred bagged blends that are on my list and will give my opinions on those at some point as well! I sure wish I would have found something I liked sooner because I have spent a small fortune on AS over the years! And that has bothered me for quite some time because initially one of the reasons I got into to rolling my own was to save money and initially I did u til they taxed the hell out of cigarette tobacco the other reason was that I wanted something more natural without all the added chemicals. I can't smoke that so called good stuff and gambler everyone else seems to be fine with for one I can't stand the taste of it and two it literally burns my tongue and throat after just one cig I start to lose my voice and my taste buds are ruined for almost a week after a few I sound like Janis Joplin until my voice completely goes and my tongue and throat feel like I drank boiling water. I had randomly tried a few other varieties with the same results and eventually gave up until recently I started digging again in hopes at finding a suitable AS replacement thinking whole leaf tobacco would be my only solution but started to come across threads about other pre shredded blends that were available and folks were claiming taste just like a camel or Marlboro etc and these observations and comments were in many places online so with so many folks in agreement I decided I should try a few that kept consistently popping up in various threads and am so delighted I did! I think eventually I will be a full time whole leaf shredder but it's good to know I can snag a Ib of shredded ready to roll tobacco for less than 25 a pound and not have to spend almost 60 bucks for less than 6 ounces of American Spirit. Thank God! I'm rich now! I feel like I am rolling in dough and it hasn't even been a month! LOL needless to say this leaves me feeling some sort of way towards AS now when you look at the price of whole leaf etc let's just say I feel screwed... btw everyone excuse the typos etc I broke my glasses about a month ago and I am just using a phone so I can barely see what I am doing half the time! I got a pair of readers about a week and a half ago and was so happy that I could see again however not even a week latter I fell asleep with them and now they are broken as well. I think I will spend the evening with a tube of E6000 and see if I can get them usable until I can get replacements sent to me again. Not being able to see has made my internet use a very frustrating experience! Again thanks for the add and for putting up with me! Lol

Their email address is also on that page.

Bob
Email! Good idea! I think I will do that now since I have more questions than when I placed my initial call and left them a VM. That was about two weeks ago. I haven't received a call back or VM as of yet but that is not to say they didn't try to reach out to me... For some reason I don't get all of my calls, text and VM's... This has been an issue for quite some time and one we haven't been able to fix as of yet. No clue why or what the issue is but it is frustrating to say the least! So though I am not a fan of email it may actually be best in this case!

I agree that does sound like it could be fun! The back story to these pipes is crazy! Lol Anyway I am a bit swamped right now with a few pressing issues but once I get some of this crap taken care of in the next month or two maybe we will do just that! I recently ordered some wax to give them a fresh shine! Don't cringe lol I know what I am doing. ;) I used to hang with my grandpa in his workshop in the basement and he taught me all there was to know about properly caring for and cleaning smoking pipes! And you didn't do anything around that man unless it was done right! Lol He had a big bin full of spare blocks and bits and pieces of wood and boards down there that us grandkids were aloud to use. We would make all sorts of things down in the work shop using the old fashioned hand crank drills or even the newer power tools. I remember when he got electric wheel grinder down there and we all couldn't wait to learn how to use it lol Nothing was off limits as long as he had given us proper instructions and knew we were capable and would follow the rules of usage and safety then we were allowed to have at it. We even learned how to properly sand and prepare wood to apply stains or paint ect. We'd make all sorts of things boats to play with in the little stream from thier spring houses overflow, Barbie furniture etc Heck there were even a couple of smoking pipes made down there in that shop over the years! Wish I had one of those still but I do not... He was also the first one to introduce me to gardening and gave me the gardening bug. Their rose garden was amazing and they had the softest greenest grass that my barefeet have ever walked on! The blades were very fine, soft and a richer darker green than any lawn I've ever seen. I followed my grandparents around constantly and I learned so much from them! Grandma had the old wringer washer with the metal rinse tub on a side table that we put cap full of liquid Downy into and once the clothes were washed, wrung, rinsed and wrung out again out back to clothes lines we went. I still prefer most every thing hung outside on the line to dry minus my socks! Some how even laundry seemed like it was so much fun as was helping grandma in the kitchen and everything she made in there was to die for! Those were the days!
