The observations on the GRIN have it with pink flowers. Interesting.

well i said there were typos in GRIN. there are even discrepancies about which accession do and do not have petiolate leaves. most of those characterizations were done back in the early 80s and i dont think they had the best people transcribing that material into the database system. i have a list of variety names and its very obvious that the person transcribing them lost track of where they were becuase they are shifted in one stretch. its very frustrating for me.

Yes. I'm still here. I had been busy bagging, then I went down with a shoulder injury and got really behind. I've been playing catch up in the field since Friday last week. my arm is still stiff, but I finally caught up with bagging today and the field is about 80% done. im waiting on some very late varieties to flower and for some others to put out suckers (they got way too far along while I was sidelined so I just broke the tops out of them). so many of the varieties this year are SO TALL, 6 and 7 feet. its been a struggle and im glad its just about over.

I wish i had that problem! The 7" of rain in 2 days, then standing water for 3 1/2 weeks stunted almost all of mine. plants that should be 6' are 2 1/2'. Anyway good to have you back.

Will say a prayer for your shoulder. Now, get back to work! :)

I think everyone's tobacco in this region has taken a loss this year. I drove by a field the other day where the crop is ready for its first priming but there were still some plants that hadn't even been topped yet. I saw another field where the leaves looked really narrow. I don't know too much about dark tobacco but we were out taking data on some in rocky mount yesterday and their leaves seemed to be in good shape (roughly 80 cm long by 30-35 cm wide).

Yeah, but how's your shoulder?

its still a little stiff with some muscle pain down my right arm, a tingling index finger (the result of nerve aggravation), and a little weakness in my right hand.

very thorough empirical studies have shown the "power of prayer" to be analogous to the "placebo effect".

my views on religion however are not the purpose of this thread.

I'm glad to hear you're improving. Don't overdo it. Some things just take time, especially nerve damage.
I apologize for the lame joke concerning your comment. No offense. Actually religion and politics are not allowed to be discussed on the forum. We'll all get called to the principals office. Sometimes I play too much.

During WWII a group of GI's in Italy were visited by the Pope. He was kindly and thanked the GI's for their service and offered to bless them all. One GI said "Sir, I don't believe in god. Should I leave?" The Pope got a light in his eye and a nice smile on his face and said "Son, No man is hurt by an older man's blessing. Please stay with us."

As the philosopher once
said "Consolation from an imaginary friend is NOT imagine consolation."
