REVIEW of Melodioso Cremosa WLT Cigar Blend

As a result of Don's generosity, I have been able to play with this cigar leaf blend.

Included in the package:
  • Ecuador Shade wrapper
  • Sumatra binder
  • Dominican seco
  • Dominican ligero

The secret here is in the ratio of seco to ligero. An all seco filler will be mild, like a Casa Blanca: cremosa, but not so melodioso. At the point of 2 parts seco to 1 part ligero, the strength is way up there, in the range of Henry Clay Dominican ("the least Dominican of the Dominican's"). That latter blend is melodioso, but not what one would consider cremosa.

To create a knockoff of the original Montecristo Dominican:
  • 6 parts seco
  • 1 part ligero
I know that seems stingy on the ligero, but it does the trick. It really does taste like one of those fine, flavorful, mild sticks.

So, the ingredients are there to make anything from a mild, "beginner" cigar to a sophisticated Monte to a full-throttle heavy weight, wrapped in a beautiful, light wrapper.

Go for it! Just add a bag or two to every order. Gdaddy has been experimenting with pipe tobacco, maybe we should drag him into this blend discussion.

As Dave points out I've been experimenting adding just a touch of Pipe tobacco. Wasn't looking for an 'in your face' type of flavor. Just a smoothing effect but retaining it self as a cigar. I started with Dunhill blend 'Royal Yacht'. The other is 'Nightcap' blended with Latakia, Perique and Virginia for a smokey room note and slightly sweet smokey flavor. I've tried two so far and they both were extremely smooth and interesting. Most people wouldn't have known it was in there. Very stealthy yet quite delicious. The Royal Yacht is sweet Virginia tobacco with a hint of plum and fairly high nicotine as is the Night cap.

For those looking for an in your face flavor of Vanilla throw in some Capt. Black. Sweet and creamy. Smelled more like a pipe than a cigar but my son in law really liked it a lot. I think women would like it also but not my cup of tea.

I've been just sprinkling a bit on the binder leaf before rolling. Seems to work just fine.

I'll add another tidbit to the Melodioso Cremosa suggestions. While the original Montecristo sports a light, shade wrapper, the mild H. Uppman cigars utilize an Indonesian-grown VBN wrapper.

A taste similar to the mild H. Uppman cigars:
  • filler:
    6 parts Dominican seco
    1 part Dominican ligero
  • binder:
    Ecuador Shade
  • wrapper:
    Sumatra binder

Bob, that looks like a great blend, easy to do as well. I have those on hand except the Ecuador Shade. Been meaning to order some of that soon.

I also like Gdaddy's suggestions, I'll try those in the future, but wanted to add some of the WLT's cigarette blends in the Cigars, with the success of the Turkish Prelep.

Filler: 60% Connecticut 40% Criollo

Bind: Havvana

Wrapper: Black Mammoth or Criollo

I've always believed that this would lead to an incredibly tasty blend.

Good luck!

Jason

Pacman, looks like a great blend! Unfortunately, the Aleman is the last of it's kind that we can get, and it's one of my favorite tobaccos. I wonder if it could be replaced in your blend with a similar tobacco? It would be interesting to see what the results would be as eventually we'll need a stand by to this ol' stand by!

Please select one of the whole leaf blends from http://wholeleaftobacco.com/Whole-Leaf-Cigar-Blends_c30.htm and send me a PM with your address.

Round 2 now open.

I'm kicking around the idea of cigarette tobaccos as a cigar...there is likely some merit to creating a cigar for people who hate cigars...the "Un-cigar".

Well, this is a half blended one:

Turkish Oriental Prelep ½ filler
Nic. Habano Seco ½ filler

with Habana 2000 wrapper.

The Red tobacco (forgot the name) is something on my "to try" list with dark air and fire cured.

You did a great job once again!!!

I have a new blend that ended up more of a mild blend, but surprisingly tasty: Habana 2000 Wrapper, Corojo Double Binder, ⅔ Habano seco and ⅓ corojo.

It would probably look like this:

¼ pound Habana 2000
¼ pound Corojo Seco
½ pound Nic. Habano Seco
