I was lookin back at last years log to get a look at where I am. Not a lot diffarants in size but most were up write An not as yellow last year. I don't want to fertilize but I think I mite some of the worst ones.

News paper under oak leaves. its a job putting it down but no hoein And is good for dirt when tilled in. I lost a lot of leaf and plants. The roots were damaged and they died a slow death.

i got to find the type material you see at nurseries, where it's a mat with small holes in it.

i know in wal mart they sell it. but it's only 4' wide. im looking for the mat that 10' + ........

I'm beginning to see budworms, even though nothing is budding yet. They start out as tiny, nearly transparent things. The earliest sign is divots in the tender, new top leaves. Unlike hornworms, budworms tend to eat a small hole, then move to a different spot or different leaf (where the leaves are closely clustered at the growth tip). To locate the worm, I often have to carefully separate the smallest of leaves, and inspect each side. Their black, granular poop--like finely ground black pepper--will lead the way, once they are longer than about 1/4".

The problem they create is that a very small hole in a very small leaf ends up being a gaping hole, once the leaf grows out.

That's them. I used Permethrin and it did the job on afids But not the worms. I have Bifenthirn now but it has been rained on ever time Ive sprayed. The guy at the farm store don't know what BT is but he got it for me last year. I will have to go to the city if I want it so I probley wont get none.
