Made with burley cased in Soda Jerk liqueur, nothing was done to the other components. It's named for the time of day I typically prefer a burley blend but it's a good anytime smoke. Let everything sit in the jar for at least a couple weeks after mixing if you don't press. When smoked in a cob the Samsun was a little more noticeable.

55% Burley, cased with Soda Jerk
27.5% Samsun
22.5% Perique

After the third pipe of this stuff by a little before lunch yesterday I figured I'd make a label later and share. I'm happy enough with it to call it a blend and mix together a good batch

Ok, I have been tweaking but I think it is settled. I started with a Va/Bur/Cav but now it is just Va/Bur and in the vein of Stonehaven/RDF but not a clone. As was thinking of changing the casing on the Virginia but as the plugs had time to rest I decided it was grand, so much so that I pretty much already smoked one whole plug.

Awesome blend that I'm sure has been done before but it's so tasty I had to share. I didn't weigh anything so I will do my best to explain

I used cavendish and aged Criollo cigar filler. A little more cavendish than cigar leaf and a touch of Latakia. Case with a tiny amount of anisette and a drop of vanilla infused honey.

The aroma is amazing!

Got the idea from Lane Andullo but obviously not using Andullo. The recipe is up for interpretation or how strong you'd like the cigar leaf or latakia. Next batch I will take measurements and adjustments since i like so much.

I am currently working on a roughly 50/50 bright Virginia and little dutch plug. cased with anisette and vanilla infused honey before going into the press. I say roughly because for every layer VA leaf i used 1 leaf of little dutch Folded over to make up for the thickness of the VA. I feel the Virginia will pair well. Any recommendation on what goes well with little dutch would be appreciated. its nice by itself and puro cigars are a treat but can see it being really nice in a blend.

Rum ➕ Madagascar Vanilla ➕ Passion Fruit Concentrate, this is a very high solution.

A pressed and stoved VaPerKy that is quickly becoming one of my go-to smokes for any time of day. When it's mixed together and left to rest it smells a little bit like ketchup with the grassy smell of the Virginias but after pressing it now smells a lot like bacon in the jar. The flavor is slightly oaky with a bit of fruit from the perique and the dark fired leaf gives it a nice savory flavor.

This batch started off with 60g of mixed shredded leaf left to dry to a crisp on a baking sheet and then misted with a mixture of 10ml water and 2ml apple cider vinegar, mixing the tobacco after each few sprays to get everything evenly saturated. After emptying the spray bottle the baking sheet was left to sit for 10-15 minutes before stirring everything around and left for another 10-15 minutes to let a little excess water evaporate, then everything went into the press where it rested for 3 days. On the third day the entire press went into the oven for 2.5 hours at 180*F.

There's quite a difference after pressing. Even the room note is a little different, making whatever room I light up in smell like the smoke from a campfire. Before pressing it had a flavor like a rich and tangy VaPer but now it's taken on more of a savory flavor not quite like but similar to bbq sauce and has developed that little bit of oak, not to mention it burns much more slowly

I measure 100g water to 100g sugar and mix and boil. For blackberry I add a tablespoon of Brewer's Best Blackberry. For Tonka I just drop one bean in sugar water and bring to a boil. You can probably reuse the bean after but I have not had to make a second batch of tonka casing yet. I use 2oz spray bottle for 1 lb of leaf and let it sit overnight in an enclosed bag before blending and pressing.

What kind of sugar are you using? I have read somewhere else on the forum that different sugars might lend a more acrid taste instead of actual sweetness?
I used just plain old domino white sugar. Now for the Grateful Plug I case the burley and use molasses instead of sugar with equal weight of water and add cacao hulls when boiling

Oh, I should note I put a cap full of white vinegar while boiling which helps invert the sugar. You can use cream of tartar also if you don't have vinegar.

I made a batch of invert sugar yesterday. 1:1 ratio of water to table sugar (200g total) and about 1/8tsp of cream of tartar. Boiled to temp of 230F with a tonka bean and was left with a very thick Honey.

Very very light hint of the tonka bean in the aroma.

There was no way to apply that to tobacco as it was, to I took 1/2tsp of the invert sugar and added it to a bowl with enough water (2-3x) to make a thin syrup. I added 1/2 tsp of cocoa powder.

I took about 3 pipe fulls of smiling toad and threw it in the bowl to soak up the syrup and then set out in the hot sun to air dry as I occasionally mixed. Left with something of similar case to the original blend.

Bag note:
The Latakia is still the top. I might be imagining things but maybe I smell a little bit of the cocoa. Maybe.

Room note:
I really can't detect a difference. I smoked a pipe almost immediately after I was happy with case and then another this morning after sitting out all night.

Smoke:
I enjoy smiling toad. I'm not sure I detect any residual sweetness in the smoke. I can't detect any chocolate or cocoa. I am for sure getting a bit of tongue bite and mouth irritation that I don't normally get with this blend. Retrohale... Normally get a bit of the Latakia soapiness that I enjoy... This soapiness is maybe slightly reduced.

Yeah, I reckon not many folks do.

Other than tobacco type do you see anything about what I did that you might do differently? I am presuming you are getting a change in flavor and or aroma when you case?
I’ve found that burley is the most responsive to any sort of major processing. I’ve toasted homegrown YTB and the change was very pronounced. I’ve also toasted and cavendished burley red tips from BB with the addition of a tiny bit of vinegar and invert sugar. The big thing I’ve noticed when toasting burley is the release of some very acrid smelling stuff. Likewise, when combusted sugar usually drops the pH of the smoke which can help balance high pH burley smoke. The pH correction can help a bit with nicotine sucker punch from some stronger burleys.

I think VA from wlt doesn’t need much of anything. If you want to change the room note or taste, careful application of food grade essential oils can do it. Just be careful not to overdue it! I experimented in the past with a drop or two of bergamot on a Va blend, it was really nice.

Lastly, anytime I’ve cased anything I’ve found letting it rest for a few months really helps. Idk what happens, but it just gets better.
