If you are able to get them to adulthood that would be great. I never managed to germinate those Kasturi Angsa seeds myself. I collected them in Situbondo, on one of these days when I would just started driving out of Jember on a motorbike and see if I would find some interesting fields. I am doing a trial at the moment with all the different Kasturi varieties I have (I have 7). The only one I am consistently growing is Kasturi Jepun Pendek. Indeed I would categorise it as Java Sun Cured although it stands out as different from the other Java Sun Cured types like Maesan, Samporis, Madura, and many more. As I experienced my time with farmers there, the vast majority does take good efforts to keep their specific strain "clean", but there are just so many different ones that it's still a complete chaos. I have seeds of 5 different Samporis types, and they are all slightly different from one another in a consistent way. The Kasturi stands out because it is usually much higher in Nicotine, leaves have a rougher texture (broccoli like), which is why they are usually not used for rajangan, where the other types are. It's also more expensive generally than the other types, and because it's more expensive and has higher nicotine, it's not often used in Indonesian sun cured export blends.

I will do my best to take care of these Kasturi Angsa.
I am sad I did not save seeds from the Kasturi I grew 3 years ago (the plants were not healthy, but I would at least have newer seeds....)

Yes, since I did not bag the 3 little plants I grew in 2017, I still have very few of your original seeds.
I wonder if I should try to germinate the other strains you sent me, to try to refresh the seeds (if we are not too late in the season)

GRIN refreshes their seed every ten years. I’m assuming there is a cushion there also.

Until now I did not fear too much about the seed viability (I store all my seeds in an hermetic manson jar with some desiccant inside).
I think the problem with some seeds sent by Tutu is the too high ambiant humidity in Indonesia, it might have reduced to shelf life of the seeds (if I am right, he collected the seeds in 2017 (or 2016 ?).

So much to do these days that I didn't notice your post @Knucklehead !

Well, everything is growing slowly (a bit more slowly than last years it seems, or it might just be a feeling...).
Every day, I gave some hours of direct sun to my baby plants.
A few days ago, I noticed that some aphids were already feeding on my leaves !!! I killed each one I found, but some leaves already show some malformations..... ... .... !
I hope the aphids did not infect my plants with some disease.... time will tell.

Some malformation/spots on leaves :

I will transplant them in the ground in a few days (the beds are nearly all ready, with mulching), as you can see, some strains are ready, some others are not at all :

One bed :

From the Kasturi Angsa seeds I started (from @Tutu ), only one plant is born, and it grows VERY slowly... I don't know if it will become strong enough to make seeds... but here it is today :

The plants are looking really good. You have been busy as a beaver. (y)
Thanks ;)
Yes I have been quite busy, trying to keep up with everything going on simultaneously (the corona-thing changed a lot of our habits and time : school at home for the children, less time for working... and the veggies garden took a lot of time too...) But I am happy, we managed to do a lot nonetheless.

I hope the aphids did not bring the PVY again too soon (I have infected plants each year). Nothing I can do about it now.

Yes, hope she continues to grow! Would be great to get seed from this!
Yes, I really hope I can save some seeds from it (you will be the first to get the seeds back of course).

Well, not a lot of updates (because of lack of spare time).

The plants are growing... slowly, the season is strange (too hot early in the season, and now too cold...), even the vegetables are not understanding if we are already in the end of the summer or if we are only in early spring...

The first weeks have been difficult for some of my tobacco (slugs), now we have some grasshoper chewing on leaves... well, I wanted to increase biodiversity, I think I can say that I have done it ! :D

A few pictures of slugs and their passion for tobacco :

Some plants were eaten so much that I replaced them, only to find that their replacement was equally eaten when in the ground !
The plants that I did not replace recovered better.

(They did not only chew on tobacco, they loved some vegetables too !)

Were the pictures taken during the day or nighttime?
