Too much to do, too little time...
I have not updated my grow blog a lot this year... sorry for this.

So a quick update.

This summer was again hot and dry (about no rain for some month, dry enough to kill the grass...).
The plants seemed to have liked it even if they did not grow a lot, I did not water them a lot and I think it delayed their growth, but the plants are fine nonetheless.
I am very happy with the mulching because this year I had very few plants infected by viruses (only 3 plants on 193 ! and a few ones in the rusticas, without mulch).
The more I add mulch on the soil, the healthier my plants are, that's a very happy thing for me !

I begun harvesting later than usual (about 1 full month later than last years), all my plants are smaller than usual , I don't know if it's the lack of water ? or something else ?

Some picts of my plants :

Woah. Careful about mold. That weather looks pretty bad for curing.

Yes, the first primings had to color cure and dry with very low humidity and now we will have too much...
I will have to be careful and hope my leaves won't turn to mold.

Holy flower head! Nice!
Yes, I left the Limonka (rustica) without bags, because I think no one is growing any rustica strain in the neighborhood.
So they should stay pure Limonka.

They grew some very big and nice flower heads compared to the size of the plants.
But on the forum, you can't enjoy the «amazing» smell they give... lucky you !

It's incredible to see how good tabacums smell and how bad smell rusticas.
It's the second time I grow a rustica, and the smell is the same, I would describe it as a pile of used socks forgotten in a sport locker ... but only more fragrant !

I have some of that too. I got it from Levi, who is a forum member who posted here a lot last year but seems to have disappeared this year. I planned on growing it this year but I couldn't find it at planting time. :/ I must have put it in the big mess I call my desk. I know it is here somewhere! His leaf was the most beautiful golden yellow color I have ever seen in a Rustica.

hmmm... I don't remember anything called Sultan Albanian. I keep all my original seed stock in the envelopes they were sent to me in so I know who and where it came from. That drawer is well organized so I'll have a look. It's the only one. lol And that is where I should have put the Limonka but didn't. Nostrano del Brenta is a beautiful and well developed plant. I didn't get a lot of seed the first time I grew it because of my short growing season, so I am growing it again this year. The seed heads look much better this year so I should get a lot more seed. I have never smoked any so I'll have to depend on you guys to tell me how it tastes in a cigar.

At some point I plan on growing some rustics just for the experience. Keep us updated on its progress, looks good so far!

It will turn into delicious flowery taste after kilning. The first days in the kiln well... try to not sniff around the kiln too frequently, or you’ll be tempted to throw everything in the trash pile.
Is the Limonka curing easily for you?

Thanks for saying that. Most people just complain about the smell. I only grew rustica once and I thought it smelled like fabric softener sheets.

You keep in touch with @polygon55 , no? Maybe I'm imagining things, but I was under the impression that if I really wanted something from him, I could just ask you to get it. Not that I would impose such a request.

@Alpine : The Limonka is yellowing nicely, I waited a long time before harvesting, when the leaves were already loosing their green tint on the plants, I hope you are right about the smell, because I grew some Mapacho (another rustica) a few years back, and even if the smell changed and became lighter (after kilning), it stayed "not very appetizing" (even the perique I made with it kept a clear hint of the "rustica smell"). But I am not afraid ! I am an adventurer !

@Alpine & @skychaser : I think we have the same desktop :ROFLMAO:

The 2020 season eventually ended yesterday : I had some leaves drying in the house, waiting for their main stem to be removed and put flat on piles. Now all 2020 crop is done ! Pffiou !

Overall another strange season : very very dry summer, I am sure I did not gave my plants enough water, and they took forever to mature.
A lot of my leaves never wanted to turn yellow and ended green-bronze in color... I don't think they will be very good, but I will let them a few years before they prove me I am wrong.

Good point : nearly no infected plant in my covered beds. I will continue to use mulch and cover the soil from now on, it seems to work pretty good.
The only downfall is that the slugs are loving it too, and tend to eat my baby plants...

So this year a new thing is on plan : chickens, or hens I should say !
We want to get a pair of hens to help us get rid of those billions slugs we have.

I wish a good crop to everyone this year.

Ducks are on our list too, but in a second time (they need some pond, even tiny, to be happy).
I am sure they can damage small plants too, that's the reason why we will use them a few weeks before we put the plants in the ground.
