Ok I tied posting this before not sure it worked doing it again. I am good at doing it again since this is my 3rd year and still have nothing to show for it. I have read a lot of other blogs and realized maybe why. I have been watering from top. Wont do that again. I have had in a window and no grow light Have a grow light now. My plants are maybe 4 weeks old and only 2" tall. Is it to late to get them in the ground this year. I am up in Prescott Valley so a lot of session left. When is to late to late. Since I have had them on a light they are doing better. Starting tonight Only water from bottom. Maybe a mix of Mirical grow will speed things up?? Any advise is greatly needed. Growing Axtec and Havana. Reading this wrong tabbaco for cigs but I like a nice cigar also nothing will go to waist IF I can get this done this year.
So, let me understand , your plants are 2 inches tall and 4 weeks old and you are just now giving them fertilizer? I fertilize with a weak solution (referred to as "spoon feeding") as soon as I see green pop up from the cell packs. I keep a heat mat and top lit with full spectrum fluorescent lights. Have you given them a haircut yet, clip the largest lower leaf of each plant large enough in half ,promotes root growth and stem sturdiness. In a week they'll almost double in size and continue to do so. what starter soil are you using? Last year I used Jiffy mix and I had a lot of them go down with root rot. This year I used something else and not one root rotted. Definitely bottom water while in cell packs. and I check the soil first and make sure that it is moist. Never water an already wet soil, it can cause root rot or mold, quickly. I mean once they go in the ground , whatever rain you get will top water it, nothing you can do about nature. I've set out 2 inch tall plants and they do just fine. Where is Prescott Valley? I also use Superthrive along with a spoon feeding of Miracle Grow .Doesnt take much Superthrive. like a capful per gallon of water and maybe 1 teaspoon MiracleGrow . Haircuts at about 5 weeks and a soaking of superthrive and another haircut the day before they go in the ground. Mine have been in the ground for a month and they are 2 ft tall and 16 or more inches in diameter. My Olor already has leaves of usable size.
