LOL!!!I'm gonna have nightmares now!
Nice to have you back in the fold.Sorry I've been gone so long folks, personal life exploded there for a while. Things are getting back to a semblance of normalcy now. no room to grow tobacco anymore though, looks like i will be making an order on whole leaf soon for some cigar baccy.....
yep, it's been said. but thanks! the 2x4 i built that press from was super dry and sap free, the cigars only spent a little bit in there, so I wasn't worried. That press was more of a "proof of concept" thing for me. I'm considering making a few from non toxic exotic hard woods. I may even polyurethane them to make sure they are sealed. I figure, why not have some sharp looking gadgets laying around. The workshop will be set up in about 6 weeks or so and I will be firing up the lathe...Cigar stump holders anyone???? Pipes, cigarette holders, maybe even some badass ash trays tooIm not sure in all the posts if this has been stated but make it out of maple. Pine is real sappy and can easily absorb to much or bleed into the cigar. But I am on the same page for making my presses.
You might be cautious about polyurethane or any other cosmetic coating on a cigar press. I regularly press and dry in a low temp oven to hasten the shaping/drying before wrapping. I don't think I'd take the chance that heat would make the poly flavor the cigar. (Just my 2 cents and maybe I should spell it "scents")I may even polyurethane them to make sure they are sealed.
