In my humble opinion, your results might contradict, etc...:

If one intention of the kits is to get noobies excited about the wonderful world of cigar making, I am not 100% convinced the Corojo oscuro wrapper belongs in such a kit because of the burnability issue. When I got a kit from here that had, I think, a Criollo 98 wrapper (which was subbed in for the Ecuador maduro or some such listed in the kit's manifest) that would not burn under any condition or case, including direct torch flame--it would only blacken and melt--I was a bit put off for awhile. While the Corojo can indeed be made to burn with effort, it is not an instant gratification kind of wrapper.

But if exciting the noobies with instant wins is not part of the intention then it's fine as a spicy and easy-to-use kind of leaf.

Well that's true. Think I'll wrap a quickie now, using as little corojo wrapper as I can get away with and still cover the deal. No more than half inch overlap. See if that is easier to burn. Might have to cut the outer edge straight to make it work.

Bob, your blends there include stuff I don't have.

Don, have you gotten any usable blends out of this experiment?

I rolled 20 sticks yesterday. Let me tell you that I think I rolled a doozy and will be rolling a bunch more. I like em from mild to strong and this one feels like a combo. Strong spice and body but the nicotine hit is medium... I like big ring gauges so this is what I put together.

4 leaves of San Vicente Seco
2 leaves of San Vicente Ligero
2 leaves of Piloto Cubabo Ligero
PA Oscuro Binder
Corojo Oscuro Wrapper

It is fantastic! If its this good now, I can't wait to see what it develops into after a couple months in the humidor. If you like a lot of spice with a moderate nicotine hit you should give this a try.

An 8 leaf stick?? wow, whats the ring gauge ...80?

So, it turns out you can swap out the Habano seco binder and use the Sumatra, but you lose some custard. What you get is a really strong leathery cigar that tastes great but is super manly. Tastes like a pro cigar, tho:

1 corojo wrapper (also works with the Indo stuff I tested it with)
1 Sumatra binder
1 Habano seco
1 Criollo 98 seco
1 Criollo 98 Viso

You can dial down the viso to .5 for less leather, too. But the above is a mathematically simple blend that is powerful and good. Makes your house smell like a cigar shop.

I built up a blend with your leaf Don, it was fantastic. Pre-light cocoa flavor and scent, moving into a bit of chocolate, pepper and cedar as it smoked down, with an outstanding pure tobacco flavor throughout.

Criollo 98 madura wrapper
1/2 c98 ligero
1 c98 viso
2 c98 seco

Nice 35 ring 45+minute smoke med-full flavor finger burner.

I'm actually on wlt now making my mind up on what to buy, including these, I want to have a few poly bags sealed up and ready to smoke for next spring.

Not fancy in selections I know, but it's a solid smoke with a great flavor, that would allow people to add additional fillers and see how the flavors change. A lot of puros can be somewhat one dimensional but I think this is at least 2 or 3 dimensional hehe. Roll one up and try it. I'd buy this kit at any rate:)

Sounds like it's an excellent blend, Smokes. I'll give it a try. I don't have that C98 wrapper but I have other maduros I can try. How do you squeeze 3.5 leaves into a 35 ring? The most I can get into that size is 2 leaves. Do you toss the heads and tails?

Meanwhile I'm still trying to get my Corojo oscuro wrapper to burn. These leaves have been treated with an intense version of a 19th-century combustion elixir that includes stuff like bourbon, nutmeg, and porto.

I'd like to get five new blends using wrapper that is currently not included in any of the WLT Cigar Blend kits (Bezuki and Corojo). Also there are some new fillers and existing fillers that are not included in any of the blends.

Let me know what you need and I'll send it to you. You can ask for 5 lbs., but I'll send 1/2 lb. :)

Offer open to members with at least 150 posts or existing customers of Whole Leaf Tobacco with at least three purchases of cigar tobaccos.

I just rolled a single serving sample this morning...

1/2 Mata Fina (seco?)
1/2 San Vicente seco
1 1/2 Nic Habano viso
1 Dominican Ligero
Aleman Oscuro Binder
wrapper will be Bezuki (tomorrow)

its a churchill

Im not exactly sure what it will taste or smell like but I thought Id try something out of my ordinary old run of the mill Cuban blend...
