My limited experience with N. rustica is that they branch (sucker) prolifically, blossom nearly continuously, and are difficult to manage in the same fashion as N. tabacum varieties.

Low chlorine tomato fertilizer is good for tobacco. Avoid adding fertilizer late into the growing season, since that will delay ripening of the leaf, and make color-curing more difficult.

Thank you Bob!

Do you think its too late at this stage?

Thanks!

I add my fertilizer to the garden beds at the start of the growing season, then never supplement it, unless torrential rain flushes it away during the first week after transplant. Other members add supplemental fertilizer through more of the season. I would say that the final month of plant maturation should be without more fertilizer added.

I agree with Bob if we are talking about granular time release fertilizer like farmers and gardeners use. It will release nutrients and wash into the soil with each rain or watering over a period of time. The water soluble type like Miracle Grow doesn't last very long and will need to be applied about every couple weeks or a little longer. I'm growing in bags this year, using Miracle Grow and stopped fertilizing when I saw buds. My plants ran out of nutrients. The lower leaves started turning yellow that could have been mistaken for maturity except that I noticed interveinal chloriosis (yellow lamina, green veins), the outside edges of those lower leaves (oldest leaves) turned down, and there were some signs of necrosis in areas, all on the lowest, oldest leaves. The leaves were still thin feeling and not quite rugose in appearance. I felt the yellowing was from potasium deficiency (with help from the image library), rather than maturity because they turned yellow so quickly rather than showing the typical slow mottling of green to yellow with a nice alligator texture. I'm currently applying Miracle Grow at half strength in order to walk the tight rope between allowing them to mature and yellow naturally while not causing a nutritional deficiency or push them back into the growth stage. The plants are looking better but we will have to wait to see how maturity and curing goes.

This is what ive used. It says its low in Chlorine content. Ive used only 1 or 2 caps of it so way below the ammount suggested. I might do it one more time but im uncertain. Our earth is quite fertile, and very „muddy“. Doesnt have a lot of sand.
I guess because its a liquid it might be fine to do it one more time.

I keep browsing the internet for ideas.

Machorka17.JPG

This thing can cut large vegetables. The thickness can be set from 0mm onwards.
@deluxestogie 's old grow blog and others have inspired me to keep the plants on the stalk when i color cure them.
Im getting more and more nervous about finishing. Thats the phase where i failed the first time 5 years ago or so.

Cheers

Hi everyone.

Insane growth here. Temperatures are in the high 20s celsius during daytime. No clouds. I water them for a few minutes every 2 days currently. Gave them a little of that liquid fertilizer a few days ago, wont fo more i think.
Cant wait to harvest the whole stalks and hang them up to color cure and dry.
I hope all goes well this time, if it does im going to be so happy.
Hopefully this blog is going to be helpful for someone in the future.

Cheers
