I wouldn't think that you would want to stop enzyme action. The more they act the more flavor you will get from your tobacco. You could I suppose irradiate it at a certain point to lock in a certain flavor profile. This is going way overboard for a home made snuff. I would hope you all would be making smallish batches while experimenting with different flavorings and other techniques. It seems that there is enough information here for anyone to make some. It's really a matter practice to get what you want out of it. You may just surprise yourself and make a snuff that you enjoy more than Copenhagen.

Whalen, how about a copenhagen recipe ? or something close ?

Man, this is embarrassing, I use snus all day , everyday, and I have never tried cope! Scared of US smokeless legacy problems. And all my snuff batches are for sniffing, You see that way I really do not have to worry so much about TSNA levels.

I would have no problem with irradiated Snuff at all. There are a lot of benefits to the process.

Juxt, I am considering acquiring some of the dark air cured for making los Snus. Will try a batch of Nasal snuff too. I understand this is a proper base tobacco for snus. What I really want is for someone to get a barrel or hogshead of tobacco and let me get some of the heart out of an aged bulk amount. That would be the perfect snuff tobacco base!

OK, got the can of silver top Cope today, there is no way i could go about making this dip, other than using some cope to innoculate a batch to ferment. These guys use a good tobacco, great fermentation, and aging to full advantage. Now, at $2 a can, fast stock turnover, why would I not just buy this one? And it sure is smokey tasting. High nic content.

Copenhagen is the only dip I can use that doesn't give me heartburn when I rarely do use it. I tried the one in the green can -Skoal brother-I had to switch. The cans of sdip here cost as much or more than cig.

Ok first test 6 tobacco leaves, one cup water, one tablespoon of sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon double acting baking powder(great value wally-world brand), 1/2 teaspoon natural hickory liquid smoke. boil everything but the tobacco flour 2 min. then turn down to low and add sived tobacco flour stir constantly 5 min. remove and with a table spoon press out water through a fine screen ( dont drink the tea !!!!!!! IT'S TOO STRONG) .Pack tobacco in to an old copenhagen can and wait a week ( I think ) I'll let you know. I tryed a small clump of the tobacco and WOW what a buzzzzzz ! about 5 x the first time i tryed cope so I'll wait the week or maybe two days. LOL

Workhorse, Hows your back first off, I hope its getting recuperated. I am wondering how you guys are coming along on the copenhagen flavor of the day. I may have to start following that particular interest more closely, just for fun. Let me know of any significant breakthroughs.;)

If I remember correctly, Nornicotine is one of the strongest analgesics yet discovered. Look through the GRIN database for tobacco with high levels of it and then seek out the seed. Might be a goose chase but then again maybe it'll help.
