The dbl acting powder is for cooking unleavened food. It is powdered acid and alkali designed to neutralize itself and give off co2 and salts. You might want to check Ph and adjust to a base if it turns out weak.

You sir are dead on the money ! If first taste says anything before it has aged it's going to be weak(because as i stated I have no patience) The flavor is very close.I guess i'll have to order sodium carbonate to go by the ingredients off the USST website. I also left out that i added (1) tablespoon aged liquor

One of the experiments for chew I tried I had put baking soda in (sodium bicarbonate, basic in ph). I got a real strong nic hit from it, a lot more than straight leaf. I read somewhere (I think it was tobacconist universities site) the nicotine in acidic tobacco (flue cured) will absorb by the lungs while the nicotine in basic tobacco (cigar, pipe varieties) will absorb through the mouth tissues. Baking powder is completely different than baking soda.

Up here in Alaska we use an additive called punk ash, it is a conk - fungi that grows on the paper birch trees.
we burn it down and mix it with cope or kodiak, let it sit for 3 days or so and then get ready for a nic hit from hell!!!

This stuff will knock your socks off, feels like your skull skin is peeling back! only in alaska!!! they also call it "eskimo cocaine"

I have never tried the baking soda thing though, it might be cheaper to!

crazy stuff...

I would think any ph raising chem would do the same thing, unless there are other ingredients in that shroom that is.

A word of warning though, the higher the ph, the quicker it moves nicotine into you. If you can't clear it fast enough, vomiting and death can follow. I was reading an old study where they killed an absolute ton of cats and dogs by shaving the fur and administering nicotine. High ph killed every single one, where they had to keep adding more of the more acidic mix to kill the ones that weren't dying. It was a pretty disturbing paper to read:(

All the Swedish snus recipes call for an alkali to free up the nicotine. It's normally sodium carbonate which is washing soda ... you can make your own by heating baking soda in a hot oven for over 30 minutes.

I'm using potassium carbonate in my recipes now - it's sold as a solution in Chinese supermarkets here in the UK as "lye water" for making noodles! You really don't need much. 2-3 teaspoons per 100g of tobacco is plenty.

Only person I ever actually watched make this used glicerin and didn't cook it. I think he shredded the leaves, and added the glicerin tincture of whatever natural flavors he was using in it. I personally thought the result was pretty mild, but I definately liked it..

If a moderator would like to chime in on this so be it, but folks as a simple warning, don't attempt this as FTT can't guarantee this is safe nevertheless legal. It is possible this is a narcotic.

While punk ash is probably not certified with all the safety recommendations that modern production methods have ... basically all that is happening in this process is that they are making potash to use as an alkali agent with the tobacco releasing more nicotine available for absorption.

Purified potash is potassium carbonate - if you want to experiment with this it is available from oriental supermarkets under the name "lye water" in a concentrated solution. It is one of the traditional ingredients of snus in Sweden.

I have never tried the Iq Miq from Alaska but from my experience of adding more of the lye water to my snus recipes definitely show that it makes the hit incredibly strong!

I don't think the use of this fungus is because it contains any kind of narcotic substance - just that it is non-toxic and available readily.

EDIT - but I also agree that you should never put any kind of found fungus in your mouth unless you are 110% sure of what it is and that it is safe to consume.
