That Honduran Habano began as a bale supposed to be wrapper grade that some double crossing shyster sold Don. Turned out to be all full of holes. So he marked it down for filler and ate the difference. It's actually pretty damn tasty filler. I still have a bag or two. It also handles super easy, making a real smooth bunch. I recommend it.
No kidding , this was sold as filler? I went through it and found a few that look like they were shot point blank with 7 1/2 shot but I did actually make a few wrappers with some.

oh heck yeah it does...wrappers are probably the best looking ...almost no overlaps visible . Very consistent color across the leaf.

Macanudo 1968 Toro (6 x 54) ...Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers , Honduran wrapper. Had a nice cold aroma but once lit emanated some weird aroma I can't exactly place...maybe like somewhere between lysol and burnt rubber. I wouldn't recommend buying one. and no it wasn't over humidified , my humi sits steady at 65 so if anything it was a tad on the dry side.

From the General Cigar website:
[h=4]Rich, dark and unexpected.[/h] Created to celebrate Macanudo’s iconic 40+ year legacy, 1968 boasts a bold, flavorful depth and intricate complexity that has delighted high end cigar smokers and reviewers alike.

Wrapper: Honduran San Agustin
Binder: Habano Connecticut
Filler: Dominican, Nicaraguan (Esteli), Nicaraguan (Ometepe)
Flavor: Full

Just lit this 15 minutes ago. I've had this in the humidor a few months. Very pleasant rich flavor. Should have bought more.

I'm reading the various reviews on this. The blend includes criollo98 which is noted as Criollo98(Jalapa) written just like that...is that true? Is it really ?

Jalapa is the region (near the city of Jalapa) where the tobacco was grown.

Ok, so the Criollo98 was grown in or near the city of Jalapa . Jalapa grown Criollo98 . Like an Ecuador grown Ct Shade. I'm guessing then, much like the Vuelta Abajo I grew last year, maybe not exactly native to the area but named for it...
So- Next question then , this Jalapa I'm growing ... what is it really?
Like a Perique is said to be a Burley but through process of fermentation in the SJP it becomes Perique.
Bob, your collection and depth of information never ceases to astound me. You educate me .

Jalapa: This variety (local name, "Jalapa"), classed as "cigar filler," was collected in Nicaragua in 1936. PI 114315 (TI 615).
GRIN page: https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlobal/accessiondetail.aspx?1130140
Original plant inventory doc: http://sun.ars-grin.gov/npgs/pi_books/scans/127/pi127_003.pdf

I'm unaware of any further detail on its origin. In my grows of it, Jalapa produced rich, heavy-bodied filler.

It was particularly susceptible to tobacco Brown Spot (a fungus) over several years of my growing it. http://www.ipmimages.org/browse/subthumb.cfm?sub=6947&area=62

Bob

EDIT: I should add that, during the very late 1970s, the Sandinista revolution and subsequent conflicts with the "Contras," nearly all of the tobacco production in Nicaragua was destroyed. It's hard to say what continuity there is between the tobaccos produced earlier, and those produced today. I do know that Joya de Nicaragua cigars were never the same afterwards.

I had a stick of that in the pool Saturday, good stuff.

Last night after dinner ( deep dish pizza) wife and I retired to our favorite after dinner place(front porch) for some cocktails (Jack and Cokes) and a smoke. I had made a few sticks of my complex WLT "octane" blend , I had wrapped some in Ecuador Maduro but just a few with the Honduran leaf . They had sat in the small humidor for something like 2 weeks ,maybe 3. First notice upon opening the lid, sweet fragrant tobacco...such a nice aroma . I picked out one of the Honduran wrapped Octanes and put it to my nose...Vanilla . I do not add anything to tobacco . How it had this much vanilla aroma and taste I do not know. So, I brought it outside where my wife was looking at her flowers in bloom. I asked her to smell it before i lit it. vanilla , so I wasn't imagining it or my nose playing tricks on me. The light- foot toasted well and dark. draw was medium/light ,"room" note was like someone baking cookies like a dry cocoa powder, taste was almost chewy and lightly sweet. burn line was razor edge but at a few spots it got wavy, no big deal though ,it never went off kilter to bad and I never had to touch it up to steer it back . I savored that Churchill at least an hour before it got close enough to my fingers I had to put it down. This ,my friends ,is what its all about. Making something yourself that impresses you over the high dollar store bought premiums. Now, I need to make myself a box full and put them away .

How you guys can polish off a churchill inside an hour just baffles me. I can't hit 'em that hard. I consistently get an hour and a half, hour and three quarters out of a robusto. Reminds me of the supposedly apochryphal story of Groucho interviewing a contestant on You Bet Your Life:

Woman: “I have 14 children, Groucho”.
Groucho: “You have 14 children? Why do you have so many children?”
Woman: “Because I love my husband”.
Groucho: “I love my cigar too, but I take it out of my mouth every once in a while.”
