This Cadillac has not Classic car license plates which means the owner has not the car only for shows-weddings etc but for every day use in city or highway, that's amazing!

I’m smoking my fourth experimental PS81 blend, this one with 6% Perique and 4% Tennessee Dark Fire Cured.

I still have four more variations to go after this. I have found these experiments to be quite worthwhile. Until now, I’ve never focused solely on minor “condiment” levels of adding tobaccos. I’m really seeing a whole additional layer to blending. Plus I’ve really been enjoying the results.

Smoking it now in an antique removable bowl meerschaum.

Red tip Burley, Maryland, dark air cured, cased with coffee, chocolate, and date syrup. A bit of sampling and I like it. I don’t think I will top it. Most of it is now pressed and stored airtight in a jar and will be aged six months then cut, broken, and aired. Then repressed for another six months. I’ll test more of it after the airing which is only three months away now.

I’ve gotten really hooked on my miniature blend experiments using PS81 as the base. Although I’ve had a bowl or two of something different most evenings, Pipe Force Episode II most recently, I keep coming back to my experiments.

I was rather surprised trying small amounts of Tennessee Dark Fire Cured in it. Even at 3%, it totally changed the character of the blend and had some subtleties show up in the flavors of the Fire Cured I had never noticed before.

Today I'm smoking the same pipe that J. Allen Hynek, from project Blue Book, smoked, a Dr Grabow Omega, from which I'm smoking C&D Pirate Kake.

I love this Dr Grabow Omega, I even fitted a churchwarden to it at one time that I bought from American Smoking Pipe, it was a beautiful combination that got many compliments, unfortunately I broke the churchwarden stem. Atleast now I'm smoking it as it was meant. This pipe sure is a workhorse, of a great pipe, and has outlasted many "better" pipes.

I wish you all have a good day and a great week.
I must get back to work on my ole' 1995 F150 this morning, I bought 3 new weld in fenders that I'm installing. This old 5-speed, 300cid-inline6cylinder just keeps on going, and it's out lasted the fenders.

She's my grocery getter I like knowing I can hook up my airstream and pull out, I don't beat her. I typically do the abusing on my motorcycles, but maybe the 302 would get the camper over the mountains faster, with the sportster in the bed.

I've got a bag of Samsun leaves that's been sitting in the garage since last fall. It spent a couple weeks in the kiln with the VA, but there's not a lot of it and I haven't done anything with it. This morning I pulled out a couple of leaves, shredded them with a pair of kitchen scissors, and stuffed it into the bowl of my Ser Jacopo calabash-shaped briar. It was quite nice, plenty of Turkish deliciousness and thick, luxurious smoke. I obviously need to grow a lot more of this stuff.

I’m in the process of smoking through my experimental PS81 mini batches again, but in different pipes than usual to check them out again and see if they show up any differently.

Right now I’m smoking one with 3% Tennessee Dark Fire Cured in a BC calabash. It’s quite a bit different than in the smaller bowls I smoked it in before. Previously I was rather indifferent about it, but right now I’m really enjoying it.

I’m going to apply what I learned from these experiments to make some other “condimental” blends, specifically with an oriental as the main tobacco. Not sure which one yet though.

Black cavendish, made from aged flue cured with added invert sugar. Interesting flavors like stoved virginia with cavendish type flavors. The flavors are somewhat mute and monotone but this certainly is what I want for blending. I have the same with some red tip burley that was not steamed as long I am calling brown cavendish. I think It still needs a little more resting.
p.s. Times were 8 and 6 hours
I put a spaghetti pressed plug sideways in an open jar that rested directly in a crock pot on high. The only issue was the jar floating and tipping at first which was easily remedied by lowering the water level.

Smoking a personal base blend of whole leaf virginias, samsun oriental, and rustica mixed with a touch of latakia, some burley, and some Smyrna.

Using an awesome small Tom Sawyer Cobb pipe.

Looking for a tribute blend that pays tribute to a favorite yearly family fishing event.

This is my first smoke of the fourth trial. It's the closest I've gotten to what I'm looking for. A smooth flavor that is Earthy, smoky, nutty, with a hint of must reminiscent of the the Spanish moss prevalent at the lake.

Having trouble with the burley though. It needs to age a bit. It is harsh. In storage it has a nasty smell reminiscent of urine.

Any tips on fixing this issue with burley?

Do I just let it age in a jar? Does it need aerobic activity? Does it need to be pressed and aged for anaerobic activity?

Rustica is normally what smells like urine. I just opened a jar that has been aging and it smells divine but after some time spent with oxygen the cat pee starts to kick in. That’s what’s in my pipe. I‘m working on getting a sense of how it might work in a blend.
As for burley, I think you will get recommendations to kiln it. I don’t have a kiln myself but I have tried using citric acid in my casing to smooth things out and that does seem to work. Chocolate or coco is known to take off ruff edges as well as licorice root. Other things may change the flavor a little too much for you. Without a kiln anaerobic is the way I go. Just let it age in a jar, but now we are talking months and years. you don’t have to press it but it takes up less storage space if you do. Hopefully others will chime in here with more ideas for us.

Burley in storage can sometimes have an ammonia smell. Try airing it out.

Smoked my fourth rendition of the tribute blend for the second time tonight... Still a great flavor, but after learning about burley's tendency for throat hit, I definitely need to back it off. Although I love the play of latakia and Smyrna, I don't want them to overpower the blend so I will increase the base blend in place of the burley.

A friend in Brazil sent me a bunch of Brazilian tobaccos to try, a wonderful gift!

I couldn’t resist trying the rope tobacco first. It’s locally produced and he tells me it’s a Crioulo strain. I’m smoking it in a BC calabash.
