I thought I would try to smoke a clay without breaking it this time. Just for fun I pulled out one of my rarest ones, a French clay pipe with amber and bird bone stem from around the turn of the century. I’m smoking Gawith Hoggarth Dark Flake Unscented in it.

Approximately equal portions from 3 previous blends to make (roughly):
45% FCV Bright leaf,
20% FCV Red leaf,
20% St.J Perique,
10% Izmir,
5% DAC…
…in a poorly crafted pipe whose bowl was way too small to enjoy just how smooth and tasty this turned out.

I have been continuing to smoke my blend of 60% 2021 Watch City Rougaroux, 20% DAC and 20% Krumovgrad, pressed. It’s really clicking for me, I will probably stick with it exclusively for a while.

GREEK INDEPENDENCE WAR 1821-2024 Anniversary

As today at 25 March 1821 the Orthodox Greeks officially started the revolution against the ottoman empire fighting the muslim turks and their allies (from albania, bosnia, tunisia, egypt, croatia, algeria etc) to end an almost 400 year old tyranny.
Their motto was "Freedom of Death" and in few areas that the turks never manage to invade was "Victory or Death".

May 20, 1825 Maniaki of Messinia, around 500 Greeks not well barricaded in positions faced 3000 Ottomans (turkish-egyptians). The reinforcements expected by Papaflessas (a Archimandrite) never arrived and so he faced the enemy alone. Every Greek knew they were going to die but fought to send the message to the Ottomans that they preferred Death to slavery. The film did not have the effects of Hollywood (the cavalry attacks were more numerous, the cannonade more intense, 3 of Greeks saved and took our flag so the muslims won't disgrace it etc.) but you can get an idea. Please take 10 minutes of your time to see how we fought for our Freedom back then.

I am smoking Skandinavik Sungold and at dinner i will raise a glass of red wine to the memory of the fallen fellow countrymen in the battlefield, those which tortured till death in prisons and the civilians who were massacred.

Hmmmm… Latakia/rustica/virginia/oriental
Sounds interesting, let us know if it’s as good as it seems.

I’m going to have to smoke this a few times to really get a true opinion of it. I’m not sure if something is off with my senses at the moment, but the casings were in the forefront to me, vanilla/tonquin/anise? Somewhat similar to War Horse Bar. That struck me as an odd pairing to both Latakia and Rustica as well as I wasn’t expecting such strong casing on what are already rather bold tobaccos, hence I need time to decide if that works for me. It almost smoked like some strange, strong aromatic.

I could pick out the components (after the casing) for the first half of the bowl, but the second half was pretty much just Latakia and casing. No harshness.

Very strong nicotine wise which I like, but I believe it would be in the un-smokable range for many pipe smokers because of it, which does ring true from the description for it.

While undertaking an archeological dig (within my home), I stumbled into a nearly empty pouch of shredded, Bolivia Criollo Black. I grew it in 2013. It had been kilned for two months, then aged (i.e. neglected) for over a decade. I seem to recall that it was a fierce thing to smoke in 2014, and that it had notably improved after 3 years of aging. Today, the smoke is smooth, though still ferociously potent. Its room note is intense and lingering. Aroma is similar to that of Venezuelan Guácharo and Paraguay Flojo.

I'm smoking it in a poker-sitter made by @Knucklehead ages ago.
