Happy New Year! I started 60 cells of tobacco seeds this morning. 30 cells of Badischer Geudertheimer and 30 Rot Front. These seeds were gifted to me by johnny108, many thanks to him. I plan on planting these out mid-February if all goes well.

I looked at my seeds this morning with a jeweler's loupe and saw that they were covered in white mold, so I dumped everything and started over. I cleaned everything with a bleach solution, mixed up fresh seedling mix and replanted. I planted 12 Rot Front on one outside row and 12 Badischer Geudertheimer on the other outside row. In the 4 middle rows, I planted 48 cells of One Sucker. The same thing happened last Fall with my Little Yellow seeds. I'm pretty sure it's due to bad hygiene on my part, as far as sterilization goes. Will post pics if or when they sprout.

It's day 6 from replanting seeds, I have sprouts in about half of the cells now of all 3 varieties. It appears that my sterilization efforts paid off, I believe the culprit was old water in my spray bottle.

I started prepping my containers yesterday. Should be able to transplant by mid-February.

I have sprouts in all 72 cells. I tried to drop from three to five seeds per cell and was mostly successful, there are a few cells that I must have double seeded though. I'll wait a few days before thinning.

They are very heavy duty, should last a long time.

While I'm here, a current pic of my seedlings.

I know, I know, it's only been 2 days since I posted a pic of my seedlings.

I finished filling my containers with mulch this morning, 60 in all. The plan is to grow 12 Badischer Geudertheimer, 12 Rot Front and 36 One Sucker.

There are a lot of mushrooms growing in my lawn, they look suspiciously like Psilosybe to me, I may be wrong. I won't be eating them, that's for sure.

Our fat, black cat named Tuffy. I rescued him four or five years ago. I was walking up the street one cold morning and saw a litter of kittens trying to get warm in the sun. All of them ran off into the brush except for him. He just sat there and looked at me, so I picked him up and took him home. When I showed him to my wife, she immediately said, "We're keeping him", so we did.

He was the smartest of the litter- got the life, now.
I wish I could get my seedlings that good looking, so fast! (Are you already giving them full strength fertilizer?)
Can't wait to see the crop!
Those look like Amanita Phalloides to me. Not a good choice for eating, either.

I haven't fertilized them at all. The peat moss contains a little bit of slow-release fertilizer, they won't need more than that until after transplant.

The seeds were planted Jan. 5th, will probably transplant to containers in a week or so. I've given them one haircut and pruned the bottom 2 leaves from each plant.

I set up my containers this morning, spaced them out at 20 inches from center to center. 60 containers total. I may transplant in the next few days if the 10-day forecast looks favorable. All of the plugs have roots coming out the bottom, so I should be able to get the starts out of the tray without damaging them.

For all the work involved in each bucket grow, it seems like building simple, mound, raised beds (or with framing), with a landscape fabric at the base, would allow you to dump all that bucketed soil into a permanent place, and eliminate much of the labor.

Bob
It would become infested with root knot nematodes in no time and would have to be dug out and replaced every season. This part of the state is notorious for root knot nematodes, commercial farmers down here must fumigate the soil before planting vegetable crops, otherwise they could not produce a successful crop. Fumigation is not possible for hobby growers; it takes specialized equipment and requires a pesticide license and would be super expensive.
I have tried solar heating to sterilize the soil but did not have good results. Another method that was used in the past was building a dike around your farm/garden and keeping it flooded for several weeks, that would not be very practical for me. So, I will continue to use my method, it's not really that much work, a few pretty intense days of filling the containers and putting them in place is the worst part, the rest is easy.

I’m not sure about your neck of the woods but central Florida is calling for heavy thunderstorms Sunday. Up to 1-2” inches

Wow, congratulations, those look great and healthy looking. I planted mine on the very same day, also in Florida, and mine are 1/100th that size. What kind of lighting are you using?
