I have several pots on the back patio that I let go to full flower. My wife thinks they are pretty - they never seem to develop large leaves but this pot had Little Dutch in it in the spring. Obviously at least one tiny seed took root between the pavers and the fence. There is really nothing but sand and lava rock there. I plan on seeing how it develops with the colder months here in NE Florida…
If it works, you might get a variety that works in your cold season.
Plus, with all the struggling it’s doing in the poor soil, it might be very flavorful.
The American varieties I've grown here in North Texas faired just fine in December. They were topped and mature and appeared untouched by several light frosts.
