Thanks, GreenDragon, I will do something similar. I must be getting old, as I have used that process before. I even have the clear spray in the cupboard.

We've had our first casualty of the season. Three of our four tomatoes are dying. I suspect that some of my bags of Black Kow is not formulated correctly, or was not completely composted. I've been growing 'maters in bags like this for 25 years and have never had a problem before.

Looks like a lack of water to me. Have you checked the moisture content? Soil moisture meters are inexpensive and can save you a lot of problems.

Ironically, over watering can make them look like they are not getting enough water. Stick you finger in there and see if it is muddy at the bottom.
Yeah that's why I suggested a moisture meter, saves poking holes and damaging the root system. I had the overwater thing happen once. I forgot to turn off the watering system for a couple of days, fortunatly it was a dry summer and I only lost one row in the middle. The dry wind kept the others alive. Says something about having some spare plants.

My two sons helped me lay 2 pallets of sod yesterday afternoon. It's starting to look like an actual yard again and not a giant mud hole! The Labrador immediately "deposited" his seal of approval.

Going to pick up some more maters today. I'll be tending them for a few weeks until they get established.

Some nice weather are rain has spurred nice growth. Unfortunately, it also watered the bugs which mowed down a few of my seedlings. Prilep in the front, Virginia in the back.

Japan 8 in the front, cigar varieties in the back.

And this weekend's project was to build a wood shed to store all the wood generated from winter storm Uri, which was scattered in three piles across the yard. Will be ready for next winter!

Just realized it's been a month since my last post. Here's an update:
It has been raining-raining-raining for a straight month! Wettest spring I've experienced here in 15 years. The soil is completely saturated and has been for weeks and very little sun. All the tobacco is stressed. The cigar varieties are trying to flower already, the Orientals are stunted, and the Va and DA aren't growing at all. The cucumbers and lettuce are happy though.

It rained 2.5 inches this past Friday in one hour. Flooded the streets so badly we missed our Son's HS graduation. Got another 2.5 inches last night, but thankfully over a few hours. And's its already thundering outside now...

The tobacco doesn't show signs of "drowning", so the soil must be draining fairly well. The Prilep looks lovely.

Bob

One advantage of using raised beds, the flood waters flow around them and the elevated soil drains well.
Thanks Bob, this is the first time I've grown an oriental, so wasn't sure what to expect. The leaf size mostly matches those from WLT, so I think that's a good sign.
