Let's hope she has a sense of humor. If not you'll be getting skunk weed seed. ;< ))

i do have a sense of humor about these things. its a male dominated field for sure. no one should feel the need to curb any behavior/language on my behalf. i was out in the field last week covered in dirt up to my knees from kneeling in the mud, cursing the stupid transplanter for burying our plants and having to dig them back up.

if there is interest, i suppose i could start a growing forum depicting my grow out nursery.

We might get a little rude sometimes, I don't think it would hurt any of us to try to behave. We have a spot here for grow logs, if you have time it would be very interesting to see how growing for seed on a large scale is done correctly. I don't think we could give you any pointers, but I'm sure we could take some.

OK so I transplanted my starts from the seedling trays to individual containers then two days of rain, so they stayed inside, yesterday 5/6/13 the sun came out and back outside my seeds went last night when I brought them in due to a cold front the MD B100 were dead. I think the two days of overcast took it's toll. The MD B100 was the last to germinate and the most delicate so I think I must have rushed them. I have more start's for them so today I'll be transplanting them again.

Hope they work out this time, sorry to hear you lost that batch. My 1st group I had 5 types refuse to germinate, the second group all took off but two. One of the two I got a few and the other nothing gonna give a few more days.

Ok, the final total was three trays lost in my overcast debacle, I wont be making that mistake again. Time to get busy transplanting from the start tray's to the individual pots again. I'll be glad when these get to about a foot tall and my wife has a kitchen table again. Truth be told I think she will be too, She hasn't really said to much this year about me keeping my plants on the table. It's hard to go up and down the stairs for me, so I've been keeping them in the house instead of the barn like last year. This way I can dote over them.

The plants i have in the ground were starting to look a little drowned but still alive. I was hoping a few days of sunshine would bring them around again, but they're giving a chance of more rain starting this evening. Larry may have a good year selling replacement seedlings if this keeps up.

You might consider planting the plants when they are about as tall as your hand is long . Tall or large tobacco plants does not take off growing like tomatoes or any other type of plants .

I have some that could be transplanted now . Bright leaf and rustics .
I raised the rusticas for myself but they have grown so fast that I won't be able to get I the field for planting

They. Were very Small transplants. I was moving them from the starting tray to paper cups. But two days of rain and overcast and me putting them in full sun was stupid on my part.

Could you gain some extra time by trimming them back hard?

i wouldnt recommend cutting back rustica but i've not tried it. i'd be worried cutting it back would stress it and either kill it or cause it to bolt (flower prematurely). my masters project was in rustica and there are a number of rustica accessions that will bolt in about 6 weeks (at about 8" tall) if left in a tiny pot.
