Those itty bitty tobacco stalks actually circumnutate daily. And when the sun comes up, they, just like Bob, want to get a piece of it.

I don’t have enough sunlight coming in through my windows to do that, so must use a plant light overhead, otherwise my plants become too leggy. Do you continually turn your trays?? We’re still expecting temps in the upper 30’s this week - a cold easterly wind. After that, things are meant to warm up a bit.

It's been a really long summer here this year.

Started getting hot (above 22-23degrees...that's over 73F) here about mid October...still getting those temps now, 6 months later...although it's predicted to get down to just 7c (44F) tonight...

In fact, last month, the daily high never dropped below 22.1c (71.7F)...just 3 days ago, the high was 83F...and we're half way though autumn...

Today I did some light garden work (with a pick-ax), put last years tomato cages behind the shed, and partially dug my new bed. I had sprayed the area for the bed with glyphosate last fall. With zero growing there, the soil has been extensively excavated by moles (wondering where the hell the grass went).

This evening, I sprayed my asparagus bed with glyphosate (e.g. Roundup). Since the asparagus has not yet emerged, all of the grass and weeds that have invaded the bed will be toast. I truly loathe weeding that asparagus patch. Also, at least 1 month prior to transplant, I will hit my tobacco beds with glyphosate, since the results were outstanding with that approach in 2018.

I now have my fertilizer (10:10:10 low chlorine), and have ordered the imidacloprid (to add to transplant water) and BT spray from Amazon--since the local stores are not carrying those. The imidacloprid is now labeled: BioAdvanced Science-Based Solutions Citrus and Vegetable Insect Control Concentrate, 32-Ounce, because Bayer is under siege. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BLNVMS/ for $17.99. Together with the BT, the shipping was free.]

Well, so much for the heat...

Cold here this morning (by comparison, not actually cold like UK or US cold), warmish today, and cold again tonight...

...looks like autumn is here....

I feel full of energy today. The sky is blue, the temp is up to 70°F...and something else. Something else deep within. It's as though my mitochondria were having a party. Now, mitochondria are those tiny organelles (like Habanitos) inside every cell of the body, that convert chips and salsa into pure energy.

I did a quick check, and sure enough, my mitochondria are truly deluxe today.

I thought it was a wooden shoe
That is clearly fake! Real mitochondria do not have a barcode and a price sticker. Mitochondria are more like a box of un-banded, un-cellophaned cigars, but not as hard to find. Can you imagine having to manually peel off a sticker from every single mitochondrion, before you could fire it up?

Nothing to see here. Just move along.

I spent the day resurrecting the battery on my Oh Deere lawn tractor, as well as repairing its mysteriously flat rear tire. And of course, I had to dig out the mouse nest from inside the engine cowling. Happy battery, happy tire, unhappy mouse...and the engine started immediately. That's a truly awesome sense of satisfaction when a 20 year old piece of shit engine starts the first try after languishing all winter. I hadn't drained the gas tank at the end of the season, and I topped it off today with fuel from a gas can that I filled in October. No belt or blade issues with the belly mower. Life is good.

Rain has threatened all day, but when nothing had fallen from the sky by 3:30 pm despite the heavy overcast, I cranked up the beast, and mowed the lawn. One hour after I finished, it began to drizzle. Yes, a satisfying day.

And all my little tobacco thingies on the back porch are thriving. My new bed (center of the photo, next to the blackberries) is ready to go. I have not weeded the beds. Instead, I sprayed them with Roundup in the fall. I'll be thinking about transplanting the tobacco in about a month.

You have a beautiful piece of land Bob. Glad the tractor fired up ok.

I broke out the lawn mower today myself. Filled ‘er up with gas and she cranked right up. (I learned my lesson and always use fuel stabilizer.). Kicked #2 son off the computer and gave him detailed instructions on how I wanted the lawn mowed (he’s 15, so frequent refreshers are required). I stressed several times to NOT run over the cypress knees in the lawn. He did anyway.
