You are welcome to bring that dark green stuff over Saturday. We can put it in the chamber and watch football.

That would wrap me up except for seed. I'll split it with you 50/50 if you'll cure it. I have more than enough. Roll Tide.

Photos from last weeks 28 degree frost night. I picked most of what was left and took to DGBAMA's for flue curing (thanks Bro). This is a pic of some left over tips that got lightly frosted. I'll harvest and cure these in a couple more days.

These have more damage and are probably goners.

A maturing seed head. The pods survived fine but all the flowers died. I have hopes these will continue to mature.

An immature seed head with one or two flowers beginning to open. All of the ones like this just fell over and the bend in the stem is turning brown. These are goners.

I relocated my sun curing leaf to the field where my patch is located because it gets more sun than at the house. The days are getting shorter. This was a week ago. Some of them are in the house now for stem drying, the rest are almost ready to be moved.

I forgot to mention that some of the sun curing leaves have a misting of fine sap on them from that sugar maple. I can't wait to try those!!

It's just a thought but If you dug up the root ball of the plants going to seed and put them in pails and brought them inside near a window, you might be able to get the seeds to mature yet.

According to Skychaser, the ones that were fairly large and survived the frost will continue to mature on the stalk. The ones that fell over had no flowers to pollinate the seed, I don't know if there is enough life in them to put out new flowers or not. I bagged two plants of all varieties and have already harvested one bagged head from the majority of the plants, I'm just letting these late bloomers go all the way.

I hate to say it but those look pretty poor. :/ I enlarged your photos and took a close look at the seed heads. It looks like there are a few pods that will mature on the bigger head, but most weren't developed enough before they got frosted.

Gee knucks, that's an awful look.

Just thinking of another alternative. If frosts are due, tomatoes can be pulled out (roots n all) then hung upside down indoors to continue the ripening of the fruit. I wonder if we could do the same with baccy to prolong it's life and get that precious seed:confused:

Or like chill.B was saying inside....but maybe also under grow lights??they won't be much longer to mature

But I think chillardbee is basically talking about transplanting into pails. I'm talking about pulling it all out and hang in the shed the same as stalk curing I guess. The buggers should keep going for ages and end up with the seed.

That was one of the youngest ones still upright. I was close to it with the camera when I took the picture of the one that the head has fallen over. I'll get some more pictures.

I thought they were some pretty nice photos Knuckles, I had a look at them the other day. I wish you the best in getting all the seed you wanted. On an up side of it all the end is close at hand and you will have a little time to reflect while enjoying what you have grown. How is your flue cure going in the kiln?

I haven't talked to Bama in several days but I'm sure it's tooling along just fine. He's supposed to come up soon for some deer hunting.

Since I bagged two plants of each variety, and the bags are getting harvested at different times, I plan to germination test each bag separately. If both bags from a variety test well, I will then combine them into one batch. The seed that don't germinate well or not at all will end up in Bama's seed swap thread. What do you guys think of that plan?

sounds good, since each participant will have their own "thread".

The flue cure is doing well, just been hard to keep humidity high enough. Not getting a "bright cure" but coloring well and the shop is starting to smell good. :)
