Just asking but why only 1/4 of Mata Fina leaf ? Those leaves are already very small, is there anything in particular about it that lead you to put in only 1/4 leaf ?

My original blend was just Nicaraguan. I think it was AZD that gave the suggestion to try adding the Manta Fina, but put emphasis that a little goes a long way.
I tried a half leaf, and tried a quarter. The quarter seemed to put the blend just where I liked it. Not that the 1/2 was bad.
I may try the 1/2 again to see if my taste / preferences have evolved.

Ben,
Mata Fina is Brazil Bahia tobacco. I do have seed from 2011, which still seems to germinate well. The seedling mortality is higher than is typical for other varieties. PM your address (again) so I know I have the right one.

Muwat Kentucky Fire Cured cigar

I received this cigar as a gift. I will admit that the size, shape and knothead are adorable.

Judging from the unlit aroma, this contains a reasonably tiny proportion of KY fire-cured leaf. Its wrapper is smooth to the touch, dull-to-glossy, and is toothy, so I don't believe that it's fire-cured. The first several puffs were excellent (always a worrisome sign). By the time the ash reached its Pickwickian body, the smoke became slightly acrid and a little bitter. My initial impression was that it was too short to be anything other than a novelty. Well, this was no fingertip burner. It was sufficiently long for me to conclude that it deserves a spot on a display shelf--it is adorable, after all--rather than being lit and smoked.

How many stars should I give it? Let's just say that if you spend your hard earned money (or even stolen money) on one of these, somebody should whack you up side the head until you see stars.

"a long way" in terms of strength, taste ?

I would say Taste. Didn't notice anything in way of nico strength.
For me, it rounded out the flavor... but I wouldn't pinpoint what it added.

Hell, it could of just been the direction of the wind blowing through my brain pan.

Over the centuries, too many earnest men have squandered their lives and substance in vain pursuit of Golconda, Alkahest, Bimini, El Dorado ... when true contentment could easily have been achieved had they only thought to bind Piloto Cubano and Mata Fina beneath Habano 2000, then wrapped it in the same.

I call this pic "Still Life With Bees"

A porch man cave. A little lemonade. Two hours elysium. Just spark one up.

Last nights front porch smoke was one of my latest rolls. 1/2 Mata Fina, 1 each Nic seco and viso, Aleman binder and Ecuador Shade Maduro wrapper with about 4 weeks rest in the humi. Probably one of my best looking yet, sorry I didnt think to take a pic of it before I torched it...but it was a 6 x 50 (robusto?) .The only one yet I have rolled that had a very slight and oily mouth feel, very nice and pleasurable...Nubbed it.
Need more Ecuador Shade Maduro leaf...

Harley that blend even sounds tasty. You really have to love it when you roll one you want to smoke down to a nub.

Not today but my most recent smoke earlier during the week along with a glass of Red Racer's Maple Bacon Ale .
I actually liked the size of this one (a Lonsdale'ish sized stick) and will attempt reproducing it again.

Wrapper Aleman
Double Binder Corillo seco
1/2 mata fina
1 piloto viso
1 Dom Ligero

Lovely day today, smoked a monte #4 , friend just got back from Cuba not long ago and brought back a box for me.
Boxed Jan 2015, needs about another 6 months in the humi.

I'm tooting on a Smokin Harley Secret Special. I have no idea what the blend is, but the cigar is great and the man can flat out roll a nice cigar. Great draw, firm throughout, and I love the tapered head. Thank you for the smoke, Smoke.
