So far I think the favourite blend I've smoked was corojo viso filler, San Andreas binder and wrapper. I just rolled some more, but with a double binder, and corojo viso that sat in the kiln for a month. The aroma of the corojo coming out of the kiln was different, kind of fruity. I'll report later.

Sun-Grown, Shade-Smoked Cigar Leaf

We're talking about 88ºF in the shade, but at least there is a breeze. The relative humidity, like so many or our relatives, is being unpleassant at the moment.

The cigar is just some old home-grown stuff I threw together:
  • wrapper: Besuki lug
  • binder: Besuki lug
  • filler:
    1. PA Red
    2. Machu Picchu Havana
    3. DR Olor

Bob I keep looking but I've yet to find the ice tea you have with you under that shady tree. 72 percent humidity up here today so I know how it feels, relax and enjoy Bob

I made up a test blend cigar and it came out great. I need a few "It's A Boy" cigars for my nieces hubby since their going to have a baby in a few months.
I really enjoyed this one and think he will also. Now to replicate the test cigar and roll him up a half dozen. This will use up all my Meta Fina & Almen but it's for a great cause.

1 1/2 - Pilato Seco
1 1/2 - Criollo 98 Seco
1/3 - Mata Fina
1/3 - Allmen Ligerio

I have embarked on my journey of rolling my own cigars by jumping in head first and rolling my first cigar today. it is not as easy as it seems. I learned not to try and roll on 90+ degree day, it tends to dry out the tobacco. I have a lot to learn! I thought my wrapper had enough case to it but it ripped when i tried to twist the end. I tried to cut a piece shaped like a "flag" to cap it and it too just ripped. That would be resolved with a longer period of "soaking" correct?
Here is the fruits of my labor. to be honest, this is number two, number one was so dry it flaked apart. I had to spray the filler just to work with it. lesson learned.

I had 2 of the group buy Nicaraguan cigars today. Hadn't rolled any in close to a year, but these ones didn't disappoint, ugly and tasty like normal.

Just as long as it doesn't look like number two and smoke like number one, you are good to go.

I think the "twist the top" idea can be misleading. The pigtail doesn't really have to be twisted. If you roll the pigtail between your fingers while you let the cigar go ahead and twirl, you will get a pigtail without ripping anything.

@Smokin Buffalo Nice roll. In the end, all that matters is that it smokes and you enjoy it.

Keep up the great work.

Last night I smoked one of my new ones from the Demo tobacco Don sent.

Piloto Cubano Ligero
San Vincent Seco
PA OscuroBinder
Corojo OscuroWrapper

Smoked better than previous roll, but I believe it still needs a little more rest to drop the moisture content.
Had one re-light.
Wasn't overwhelmed by the 1st Half, but it wasn't a turd either.
Seems like the stick came into its own after the re-light. The 2nd half was much better.
Eager to see what another week does to marry this thing up.

I've had serious burn issues with the Corojo oscuro on any vaguely young sticks, meaning a lot of them because of all the blend tests. Time to let the next round of tests sit in the box for a month+ and see what changes.

Ok, thanks for your insight.
I guess I will let the other 8 sit for a couple weeks more and then give it a go.

Natural oscuro comes from the upper stalk positions, so its combustion is slow. Combining an oscuro wrapper with a thin, highly combustible binder may help.
