I saw deluxe mention a red tip filler ct broadleaf binder cigar in a previous post. I made one up this morning. Very nice Kentucky robust. Would probably go great on a tour of the Bourbon country distilleries:)

That sounds pretty tasty. I saved some of my burley red tips from a couple of seasons ago. I need to dig through and find them. I built a kiln early this year but I can't remember whether or not I kilned my red tips.
I need to start keeping records. Hey, look, another variety just fell out of my ear.

What I have commented about is the combination of CT Broadleaf wrapper over a burley red tip binder. The filler can be any cigar types.

Thanks for the nod. I'll be interested to hear your take on the blend. I'm assuming you went with the maduro wrap? mine was about 14 days old when lit.

Yep, Maduro. Used Habana Viso for binder.

i used a habano seco for the binder. the leaf i got from WLT is in such great condition, i think i cold use these as a wrap. hopefully the viso makes as fin of a stick for you.

tonite was dominican seco, san vincente seco, san vincente ligaro and a dominican binder. in a light fire wrapper. it burned ok was a little loose.

burned well but had a kick. had to step away after about 1/4 stick...without inhaling... started getting a bit dizzy! the wood smoke in the wrap hangs for a good long time, felt like i'm on a camping trip.

I just rolled a small all home grown cigar from Colombian Garcia (Honduras) filler that was bound and wrapped in a Timor (Java/Indonesia) wrapper. 5" long and slightly larger in diameter than my pinkie finger. Fired it up right after the photo and smoking it now. I'd call it a mild smoke with great taste.

tried:
1 san vincente seco
1 corojo viso
1/2 nic habano seco
in a double nic habano seco binder
all prettied up in a CT shade wrap

beautiful aroma, smooth and very smokable. no remarkable flavours, just a smooth well rounded smoke. burned like a champ right to the nub

sry...apparently the phone was upside down.

edit: this could make a great blend kit. the nic habano seco i got was top quality, easily made a nice binder and used a bit of the lesser leaf as filler.

I smoked this one earlier - rolled it yesterday:
1/2 leaf - American CT Shade Leaf Wrapper

1/2 lead - Sumatra Cigar Binder
1 leaf - Dominican Seco
1 lead - Dominican Ligero

It's the
Melodioso Cremosa kit from WLT.

Very happy and proud of this one. It's my first cigar that I feel like I've done "right" and I can't wait until the other 6 I rolled have some rest time on them! (The other have two leaves of seco instead of one.)

Ron: Woot! Good job.

You know, I have kept one stick of each kit, all rolled 6+ months ago. Actually in the case of this Melodioso Cremoso CT shade one I have two sticks, a 48 rg and like a 28:

Those long, thin cigars are a bear to roll.

Bob

I bought some sort of huge paper malt (e.g. chocolate, vanilla) straws and cut them length-wise to make a mold. Held it together with masking tape. I'm going to smoke this thing when it's got a year on it.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Thanks to all the tips I've read here I feel like I'm making huge improvements.

Ordered a couple more kits and a chaveta from WLT the other day. Should be here in a day or two! Next I'll start ordering non-kits and doing my own blends. this is seriously fun! Although the CT Shade wrapper will not be a repeat until I get some more experience lol

That long thin cigar looks awesome waikikigun. Very nice!

Those long thin cigars are a bear to 'bunch' , can't get much in them, and you really have to watch how much binder you use etc. Plus, you have to have a large leaf of binder and wrapper to cover the long length of the cigar. I have a mold for a large panatela and only used it once, but someday I will get inspired. Also, when selecting wrapper and binder, you have to pick something that you really like because it makes up the most part of the cigar due to its small ring gauge (not room for much filler).
