I'm not sure, but I think some of my seedlings have blue mold. Mostly on the Trabzon 2 and the Little Dutch. The Small Stalk Black Mammoth seems okay so far. I'll go to the garden store in the morning and see if they have anything to treat it with. Anybody dealt with this before?
Keep an eye on the new growth. If the leaves show no sign of the problem pluck the bad ones or just leave them alone and don't worry about it. Strange things sometimes happen with no explanation especially when seedlings are just transplanted. Stay calm and all will be good.

The Trab2 looks really pretty compared to the Shirazi. The remnants of my firebushes after the cold snap. Finally, some jerk must have hacked my account and posted what appears to be a taunt aimed at those of you enduring the cold, frigid winter further north.

Rained most of the night and early morning. Should clear up by noon.
I had two casualties from the mold/fungus or whatever it was. Both were Little Dutch. One of them may survive, it is putting up a fair looking leaf in the center. Everything else is growing new, healthy leaves. I sprayed them all twice last week with fungicide. I'll hold off from spraying again unless I see damage on the new leaves.

A few pictures. The transplants are starting to take off nicely. There is a little bit of pest damage on the Trabzon 2, not much on the little dutch and black mammoth. I threw the stalks from the winter crop over the fence and they are putting up some growth. I don't expect anything from them though.

I'll keep an eye on them and give them a shot of nutrients and water from time to time. Bad thing is though, most of the surrounding plants are sticker burrs that I'll be picking off my clothes for a half an hour later each time I go out there.

We had sustained high winds on Saturday and a large dead pine tree fell across my fence. I spent the morning cleaning up the mess. I picked up about a gazillion pinecones also.

The pics of sprouts in the cages are Papayas. I have 4 hills of those.

My tobacco plants are 41 days from transplant. The Little Dutch is starting to form buds, they won't yield much. The Trabzon 2 and Black Mammoth are doing good, should be another three weeks or so before they flower.

Today is 52 days from transplant. I topped the Little Dutch this morning, about half the plants had open flowers. The Black Mammoth and Trabzon2 are both forming buds and will need to be topped in a week or so.
Compared to my winter grow, these Trab2 are smaller at this stage. This bunch had a rough start due to some disease during the seedling stage. It set them back from rapid growth for a few weeks. But overall, they look okay. All 3 varieties were affected. This is my first time growing LD and SSBM, so I have no comparison. I'll take better care of the next seedlings.
Hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to seeing your upcoming grows.

Frank

Today is 9 weeks from transplant, all plants have been topped, except for one black mammoth, which was bagged for seed. I sprayed with BT yesterday morning and of course it rained an inch in the afternoon. I haven't seen any worms or eggs though.
Some of the bed leaves are turning yellow on the black mammoth, I may harvest those soon.
Three of four of my papayas are starting to grow a little faster. The variety is Caribbean Red. They were seeded directly into the native soil and fed with MG for tomatoes. So far, they seem resistant to nematodes. We'll see.

Very nice!
What is your soil mixture for your container grown tobacco? I'll be doing the same for about half of mine.
I don't use any soil at all. The grow media I use is cypress mulch. The plants are fed daily with soluble fertilizers mixed with water. If you're interested, review my Spring 2021 blog for more in depth details on this method. It's a passive hydroponics method that I found back in the 70's in an old publication on Florida gardening. It's called the "Can Grow Method".

I'm going to look into that also. I'm doing a container grow for veggies and Prilep and the biggest limitation for me is the sticker price for potting soil. Cypress mulch is alot more economical and you can't argue with your results. You've been producing some beautiful tobacco. (I'm also a little jealous that you can grow three crops a year)

I have a little bit of disease on a few of the SSBM and the Trab2. The LD was affected in the seedling stage, but not now. I believe it's blue mold, but I'm not sure. When they were in the seedling stage, they showed signs of the same disease. We've had over 4 inches of rain in the last few days and it's been very hot and humid for this time of year. I'll do some heavy duty disinfecting before I use the same containers again.
I've primed some leaf from all of the plants. The SSBM leaves were ripening before the plants were topped.

Hey folks. I decided to do an unscientific test to get a feel for the nicotine level of the Trabzon2 that I grew last winter. I abstained from snus for a few hours, then rolled up a slim, puro cigarette and smoked it. It burned well, produced a light colored ash and tasted like a normal cigarette. The seed site lists the nicotine content at about 5.80%. I don't think it's nearly that high, but it satisfied, nevertheless. I think it will make a satisfactory puro snus. I have about a pound of snus in the freezer to go through before I need to make more. I'll post the results after it's made.
