Kubota is a great tractor. I have a smaller one, my brother had one about the size of yours and neither one of us have any complaints! Come to think of of it I also have a Kubota riding mower.

I'm pretty sure it was just that bolt that was threaded all the way up to the head. That made it weak. I broke two in two passes. Since I put the bolt in that had the solid shank through the two parts, it hasn't broken yet and I've tilled the whole patch twice.

The last guy must have done some stump grinding and broke it and put a Home depot bolt in her.

I checked the weather a little while ago, they changed our low for Tues. night from 28 down to 23. I hope this is the blackberry winter I've been dreading instead of coming right after transplant time. I also hope this doesn't kill all my Pear blossoms.

It looks like after Wed. I can move my plants outside. It starts warming up and stays above 40F at night.

I hope he wasn't too rough on it, when I get through with the patch I want to clean it up and use it to mix a batch of Margaritas.

I gave the seedling their first haircut yesterday. The weather is supposed to start warming up after tonight so I plan to move the trays out on my eastern facing porch tomorrow where they will get morning sun. After a week there I will move them to full sun and leave them outside unless the weather changes again.

How do you do that , I mean give them a haircut ?
Does it benefit the plant in some way ?
Over here we still have frost overnight and a few , maybe 5-7 degree's Celcius during the day.
Do you sort of harden your plants Nuck , gettin them used to outside temperatures slowly but surley , over here we do that over the last 14 days before planting.
10 days in the shadow by more and more hours every day then 1 hour sun the 11th day 2 hours the 12 th and so on......

I try to move mine full time outside when the night time temps stay above 40F. If they drop below 40 at night I move them inside or under the camper shell on the back of my truck. I first move them to an eastern facing porch so they get 2-3 hrs of sunlight in the morning and then shady light the rest of the day. After a few days of this, I will move them into full sun. It is warmer outside than in my basement and sunlight is better than fluorescent light. They really take off after I get them more heat and sunlight.

EDIT: Air movement from the breezes coming from different directions causes the plant to grow a thicker stem to keep themselves from flopping around.

This is something that I never thought of, and would be a big part in the developement of small seedlings. IndianJoe jest left me a comment on my grow blog about a small fan in my small greenhouse to help do the same thing.

I keep forgetin' to get the oscillating fan out.

With the lower section of the stalk moving back and forth (wiggle) while growing. I think the cells increase themselves (thicken) to account for the climate it's in. I've read this process is important for trees.

I have mine on the window with morning sun until 1:00 or 2:00 PM. Sometimes at the evening dawn I turn the seed platter for 180 deg from window to inside.
During the night seedlings are turning on the light again and enhance the stem and off course sometimes I blow into them. It's working too.

I can see how that would be helpful, too. It sort of mimics the way the leaves follow the sun when they are outside. That's a good idea.

I picked a bad time to move my plants outside. We are getting a lot of rain and when it's not raining the RH was in the 80's. The soil just would not dry out and my leaves were turning white. Our forecast for the next four days is rain with clouds for the next ten days at least. I put them back inside under the grow lights and on the heat mat. I have one flat of seedlings that I planted late and left inside. They have already caught up to the plants I moved outside a few days ago. Oh, well. I'll give it another shot when the weather is better. Good intentions, bad timing.
