WELL MY PLOT, ISNT IMPRESSING ME AT ALL. I MAY HAVE OVERFERTILIZED IT AND STUNTED IT'S GROWTH,????

or all the rain we had weeks ago, that lasted forever may have stunted them????

either way my crop's quanititty of leaves isnt impressing me,

but i did plant many plants,, so a little off many plants = a good bit,,, perhaps a 1/3 of what i should have had,

next year i'll be on virgin ground, and will play very close attention to the soil ammending i will be doing,,,

a soil analysis, will be the first thing i do,

Its just bin a tuff year in the SE. I had a poor start and its got my hangin space filled up at one time instead of spread out. I also lost the time for the 3rd grow. I was luckly to have some space I could clean out and make hangin room but its got to cure and dry in 2 1/2 mounths.

Sorry to hear that Chicken ... it sounds like it's been an awful year for growing anything in the US - especially tobacco. I wouldn't blame your methods straight away!

It's the water brother! Nothing can grow when it's floating in water. I have the same problem. Mine is finally coming out of it and now it's started raining again.

Well some things grow well in water - but not tobacco!

If this is the start of a new pattern you could try growing rice next year .. Or watercress!

Your not the only one with a few dissapointments. I had probably 5-6 varietys that were to tall or spindly by the time I found the time to plant and then not being here enough afterwards and they are all stunted. About 3 60' rows worth. I will retry those next year.

If I had grown only in my original garden patch I may have been too discouraged to do it again next year.

i gotta agree with ya'll..... im not upset at the result's.

i'd just expect more from all them plants.

and my lizard-tail is so wimpy.

. lets say last year i could stand in the middle of my patch and disappear, it was so thick,

this year i have nowhere to hide, nothing is thick or tall or filled out,, e.t.c.

but im waiting to pull the last leaf, so i can start moving back to my '' home''

You got a lot of growin room thir?

oh yeah, it makes my current plot look small.

but it's all grass, i gotta go in there and kill the grass and then get the john-deere in there and harrow it all up. [ my winter project ]

but next year. hopefully the grow will be big, and the quantity of harvested leaf will be massive.

If you had planted the exact same varietys in same location do you think results would be different?
My patch looked totally different with most all new varietys and different location. So many tobacco variety varys so much in looks and dimensions, not to mention other factors like weather and soil.

You gonna have plenty of curing space there too?

i have a singlewide trailer there, and 3 sheds, for storage/curing

allthough im thinking of building a shed just for curing,, with a potbelly stove for heat,

perhaps build me a '' old school'' curing barn, just like the ones that are standing EVERYWHERE in my area,

In Virginia's "South Side" (flue-cure belt), the old flue-cure barns that are still standing are squared log construction. The chinking would need replacing regardless, and many of the logs show serious deterioration. Roof is rusted metal. Their fireplaces tend to be brick or stone, built on the ground at one side of the structure. With those, I would doubt you could end up with more than a third of the original structure if you tried to move it.

^^^

ive been in quiet a few of them around here,

i do need to get some pic's of the many '' old barns'' in my area,

but i believe building one would be better than trying to move one,

right now im '' picking'' i had to take a beer break, i ran out of paper i use to label what strain is in what basket,

so inside i had to come, [ and i needed a beer ]
