youve got to get them aphids under control.

im a little envious of your crop, i think your the first member to get yours going real early, and i have a professional indoor growroom system, but wasnt able to use it early this year, so i just let the sunlight grow them this year

you will i.m.o. have enough time to do a 2'nd crop.

6-8-13: Will update pics but isnt much to show. Have stripped one row of buckets and waiting to cut tops and stalk dry.New plants to small to go out yet. Have 60' of leaves drying nicely which was a severe problem for me as I had serious doubts that I could dry at all.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Indestrucible-Plant-ID-Tags/

Seems a great way to identify plants in the field. I plan to slip over the stalk and wont have to worry about fading or falling off. Will attach with rivet or wire. Most likely will try to buy ready made similar item tho as work is pressing in on me pretty hard.

Working on soil mixing drum and will plant as many as possible. Put 10 small goldfish in each gutter for mosquito control last nite at 14 cents per unit from PetSmart. Found 1 dead and saw 5 alive but didnt look to hard. Am dashboard curing some accident leaves for about a week and they smell good. Are past the "raisen-bran" smell stage but when I rolled one up to smoke , Sheila came out of other room wondering where electrical fire was and wouldnt let up till i told her what could possibly be the smell. Not to encouraging.

Got to shop for anchor for boat and then finish 2 more gutters for veggies so weekend is pretty full.

If you SCUBA dive at all or know anyone who does anchors, most with some line, liter the bottom of almost any anchorage. In my diving days a buddy and I used to bring enough up on a Saturday afternoon to take the wives out for dinner (we sold them by the pound to a local marina). I still use the salvaged lines for tree work and hauling as necessary.

Right or wrong .............. I did it.............. I cut 40 some stalks and got them wilting. Most are all primed and mostly all top to top-middle leaves.

Seedling flat in background is standard size one.

A4.JPGA8.JPG

I cut out the root balls and put in old start from first hatching.

A5.JPGA6.JPG

I did this to 1 about 3 weeks ago and it is as tall as the rest got and has no sign of flowering... Did another from same batch and it is about 3' tall and no signs of bolting............. All the suckers seem to get 3 sets of leaves and launch flower so it is no suckers for me except the few I am keeping for experimental suckering use onluy., If the idea of using a sucker is to produce another whole stalk it is not working for me due to floweringl. Also another reason for using suckers is to use the old plant established roots. So what I am trying is to let a sucker start at each node and pinch down to 1 set or 1 leaf. It appears to be working and would not make good idea for large grower but as a hobbiest it might make good idea.

A1.JPGA7.JPG

ANd finally..... Another good thing about container gardening. You can re arrange :)

Great harvest. I hope you get the cure weather you need. Interesting experiment with the sucker crop vs second grow.

Used drill to put hole in stalk and hung on cotton sample cord. It sure takes a load of leaf to make a pound.. I took down one string of 6' and I bet it isn't a pound or close but was young and small leaf too. But all dryed gold to red at least. Stems dry too.
Is last of junk leaves. Have 8 more good strings of 7' or more and 2 rows of stalks. Maybe 40. I didnt count. But were all primed 2/3 way up also.

After the soil machine is made tommorow and the flower gutter for shop is planted , I will have to start kiln project. Which means loads of reading.... :)

Forgot to add... Pushed nail thru hole..... I didnt thread the stalks :)

Soil machine is done but to hard to turn right now. Door comes open and need to add more locks for door and a handle. Really want a clothes dryer motor and belt for auto turning.

For all the effort scrounging materials and building it why not just get a cheap electric cement mixer?

Fisherman. How's the cure coming along? Is the weather cooperating or are you having to work with it?

Hello Knucklehead,

Just working hard and tied up there and with completion of boat cabin. Will update asap. Got about 100' of closely stacked dried leaf ready for some sort of curing and bought a small trial kiln to experiment with until I can get my unit built.

Having a lil trouble getting second full planting in ground but will this week. Dam heat and drought at the moment but missed the hurricane threat for the time being I think.

Got about 30 plants going thru first growth spurt and collected 3.8 oz seeds from 4 first planting plants.
