What's the best time of day to try and find the munching critters? I've found 3 little green worms about the size of inch worms. 2 before I sprayed with BT and one after. The one after seemed to be dead. The holes are very small but increasing in number. I'll take a picture of the next worm I find, but was wondering if there is a preferred time of day to look for them. The plants seem to have decided to grow after drying out. I could tell a difference between today and yesterday. Finally.

Myself I would use flashlite after they start praying. Also good time to spray BT too if not worried about leaf spotting mold or fungus etc. Just my opinion. I was going to BT spray mine again. Havent had but 1 liol worm on them since I sprayed with BT a few eeeks ago but it didnt take but a few to wreck a few plants and need to start a routine. Had it planned but the soap spray scandal had me postpone it . It is raining now so not good time.

If they are tobacco hornworms this early in the season then that means you are one of the lucky ones! Your season will be long enough for 2 generations of worms. Keep notes so next year you have a better understanding of when you need to start spraying.

Best luck I have finding them on my tomatoes is early morning or late evening. And always seemed to be on the newest leaves.

When you get used to findin them you can quickly walk through the garden and see a tiny black horn or new damage that has not yellowed around the edges.

Thanks Boboro. All the leaf damage was due to the worms having to eat leaf before the BT will kill them. After the initial wave of damage, new damage has dropped way off. There must have been alot of worms to start with. It's raining now, so I will give them another dose once the rain has stopped.

I planted12 Yellow Twist Bud plants into the patch yesterday evening. We're getting a nice slow steady rain now. My first wave of plants have recovered from the transplant and the subsequent overcast and very rainy days. I will have to replace one VG and four Burleys. I think I got off pretty light. My next planting will be the 20- Smyrna #9, 10- TN90 Burley, 5- jalapa, 5- Olor and 5- lonnie's Havana that I ordered from Larry. 6 of the TN90 will finish out my row, and 4 will replace the dying plants.

I havent used B T . The farm supply store here dont have it and I hate to go to the city. I use Bug B gon from Wally world. It works good on all pest. This is 3 weekends in a row for rain and this is the slowest start Ive ever had. My mom has decide she wants a huge garden so when its dry enuff to plant I have them 7 am to 8 pm days. Looks like Ill be plantin to mid June.

I dont spray my plants unless I see a lot of worms. But any afids get it when I see them They are a nasty mess and when thet get started they will get all over the plant in no time. I dont trust the soap stuff. I want them all dead now. Most of the time I walk or ride through the gardens in the afternoon and hand kill the worms.

Thanks Wallsce, I know our Jacksonville co-op carries the hy-yield brand too, so will have to look more closely at the labels.

Thurycide is in the name. I'll check the label when I get upstairs and post it.

That stuff works for me good to Mr Knucklehead. I havent tryed full strength either after the soap incident but works at 1/2 strength good. We are getting into the mid 80's now and you wanna be careful when spraying leaves. When do you spray?

Hi-Yield Thuricide Concentrate from the Co-op. It's a liquid for spraying.

I spray in the evening after the plot is in the shade to avoid sun scald.
