We had a big time. We traded tobacco like the Indians, we broke bread like the Pilgrims, we hollered and pulled for our team like a couple of Rednecks. Good food. Good times. Good folks. Good day.

I loved the flue cure chamber. Simple elegance. From Lowe's to flue curing in a single day. Wow.

Never been a pipe smoker, but there is just something comforting/calming about holding this warm piece of wood in my hand.. Thanks buddy. :)

Knucks, you asked if i would do anything different on a curing chamber.....just thought of it and YES. I would add a heat/humidity box OUTSIDE the chamber.... Like a bbq smoker where the fire box is on the side. Then i could use all the space inside for bacca. AS is, the crock and element will scorch the tips of a few leaves placed too low.

i would say the opposite,

my first small kiln had the box set outside,
i used a fan to push the heat '' out '' to the leaf,

and didnt like the setup too good,

i like my heat source to be under the leaf,,, and the crock-pot under the leaf.

that way the heat and the humidity can '' rise'' up thru the leaf,

..........................................................................................................................

nice to see you 2 had a good time,

i read in the shredder thread, about him using that machine,,,

it's a machine that once you see it in action, you'll no longer be sitting on the fence thinking about getting one,

I started priming some of my cigar varieties today.
Swarr filler PI 552405 This is an absolutely gorgeous plant. Big, closely spaced leaves. I hope it tastes as good as it looks.
PA Broadleaf filler PI 552732
Foreheimer Gundertheimes III filler PI 552632
Havana 503B binder PI 552653 This is another gorgeous plant.
Havana 211 binder PI 552433

I also primed another Oriental. Sultansko PI 286828 It's in the shop wilting now.

Most of the flue cure varieties are bagged, but lack a little while before they will be ripe enough to prime.

The plan starts to come together.

It's going to be close. It's down into the upper 50's at night now, and the humidity is going down. I'm running the shop heater at night. Before long, I'll have to start wetting the floor or build a tent like Ishi did.

Great you are getting some picking done. Let me know when the flue cure ones are ready. I believe I will have two more runs of the kiln/flue then it will be open. should be good timing.

Great! that sounds real good. You have my grow out list, make some selections that you really want to try. I have three varieties I'd like to try flue cured, the rest I'll air cure.

That's a lot of leaf. I didn't realize it held that many. We can sample a bunch of varieties. :)

I did not either till i did the math:
18 hanging pins per stick.
3-5 leaves per pin depending on stem thickness.
4-5 sticks per level
2-3 levels depending on leaf length.
