This is just opinion, but I would say, anything can effect the taste. Cup of Coffee would have a different effect than lets say a 7UP.
Could be the MSG does effect that. I know when I eat a MSG laden dish it makes my cravings different on what I want to drink as well.
i.e. I would rather have a Gin N Tonic after that than a Scotch or Bourbon.

This is also just my opinion but I find that what I eat before a cigar has a significant affect on how the cigar tastes to me.

If you have a meal with strong, bold flavors then you most likely will not want to pick out a mild cigar. You just won't taste it. Of course your mileage may vary.

I find cigar pairing either before or after the meal is similar to beverages. If I smoke before a meal , I go with a lighter or milder strength cigar because if it is a strong one it tends to curb my appetite. Conversely. If I smoke after the meal (e.g- something heavy like pasta with meat and red sauce or steak ), I prefer a heavier flavored or stronger stick.

WLT / FTT. You have spoiled me.

I pulled out a stick that used to be one of my favorites.[h=1]My Father Flor de Las Antillas[/h]
I will say I enjoyed the smoke, but I have to say, it was kind of a disappointment.
I had burn issues, and several re-lights. Well, as we know that just happens.
But the flavor... it fell low below the new bar I have viewed.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with my Mom many years ago. I just installed a pretty kick ass stereo in my car, and took her out for a spin to show off my hard work.
She was amazed by the sound quality. Later in her car, she was disappointed in the lack of quality. The two door speakers, and no EQ.

My point being, thank you FTT/WLT for showing me what a real stereo is like.

Sorry to hear that Lew. Flor de Las Antillas used to be one of my favorites too, but I have not had one in a long time, and I have had a lot of other awesome cigars since then, including the ones that I have rolled. I need to pick one up to see if I have the same reaction!

After running my errands today .I sat down on the front porch with a nice little Partagas Havana . Rather delightful, with which I took my time nubbing .

While making a few Christmas presents I thought I'd try a variation of the Sambroso Medio I rolled a few weeks ago. I tried rolling it with a Criollo wrapper. Not too bad. It works if you run out of H 2000.

A blend I borrowed from someone here that had just a little Mata Fina in it. Smoked at Iwan Ries in Chicago, a nice old cigar shop & lounge. Almost perfect, with 3 months age on it.

Double Maduros are great for accenting a flavor. For example in Criollo blends and Habano blends, it accents the chocolate flavor and brings that to the forefront. A double H2000 can smooth out heavier tobacco blends, etc. Give it a try!

First of all I want to thank AZDave for starting this thread. From a cigar smoker, grower, and roller this is one of my favorites. Earlier today I smoked a Cuban (Partagas) brought home from a trip abroad. I would just say it was ok not great. Funny thing is that it was one of the best I'd smoked when I was in the Mediterranean. Later today I smoked one of my own cigars. It was one I rolled last week. It was a new blend for me and i have to say it was hands down one of the best I've smoked in recent months.

1.5 Dom Seco
2 Little Dutch (my 15 crop)
Penn Binder (my 15 crop)
Brazilian Wrapper

I wanted a clear idea of what Don's piloto was like so I rolled up a few

4x piloto Seco
1x piloto Ligero
With Ecuador wrapper as binder and wrapper.

I like it. It's like a medium, every day blend. Hints of coffee by the way.

Voodoo I'm trying to work a new blend of almost the same but I am changing up the binders and wrappers.
I put in a touch of Meta Fina, I rarely roll with out it anymore. Can't wait till it's back in stock.

I'll have to order some when it arrives. I've never tried it.

Try the San Vincente Liguero in place of the Braz. Mata Fina, but you can use a whole leaf or two in instead. I do miss the Mata Fina.....the stuff is so good you can literally chew it, no joke. I found that out at the tail end of last batch in, so I'm kicking myself I didn't buy more.

It was absolutely dynamite!!! Best cigar I've ever had!

I had the San Vincente' Liguero in a mix that was absolutely creamy. This was my first 5 star blend. It was so simple, I'm not sure why I didn't try this combo earlier:

2 San Vincente' Liguero
2 Corojo Viso*
2 Criollo Viso
I did a double Bind/Wrap with the Corojo Oscuro I saved back.

*If wrapping with another wrapper it might be best to bump up the Corojo to a Liguero. Believe it or not, this was a medium-full cigar with loads of flavor! I wrapped up some for Don over at WLT, and am wrapping several at home this weekend for me. Plus I ordered more tobaccos to continue making this for a while.....

China, grow some Brazil Bahia. It's basically Brazilian Mata Fina. Mine is more mellow than WLT's Mata Fina, but it works, or try the San Vincente' Liguero :)
