Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen, i do not write lately often on the forum and this is not accidental. The weather here is unstable and spoils my mood, i had to fix some things in my car but the main thing is that my blood pressure is getting high. I need to make some changes in my life (coffee-smoking reduction) and revisit the cardiologist possibly for a Holter. In the meantime i found the opportunity to go and see my old friend on pipe smoking days on Resistance era, the Guardian. Although there is no longer any danger of take a ticket from the Police, he is still faithful to his duty, he stays by my side and constantly monitors the area for possible threats.

First of all also from me a good recovery @Sid.Stavros

I smoked some Skiff Mixture in the night while watching a car on the parking area driving a small street slope up and then breaking and rolling back. This was going for half of my pipe time and the moment i get concerned with the mental state of the guy (or girl) he was driving the street normal again. It was quiet bizarr to watch.

But the tobacco was quiet good. I have also smoked some of the squadron leader which is as i understand the same blend but without the orientals and with higher latakia but i must say that i like this blend a little bit more so far. The orientals really give a nice tang and spiciness to the blend together with the latakia and the sweetness of the virginia its a really good combination.

Prior to digitally adjusted automotive brakes, brakes were designed as "self-adjusting". In order to engage that self-adjustment mechanism, it is necessary to drive the car backwards at least 30 feet, then apply the brakes firmly. This is repeated several times, until the brakes are adjusted. (Or the driver is nuts.)

yes. i have done this a handful of times, though that's not to say i am not nuts. living in Wilmington DE (just outside the city) i see a lot of interesting things people do while driving as i smoke my pipe on the porch. My favorite is watching them speed and hit the speed bump and bottoming out.

just 2 days ago someone fell asleep in their car, i believe they were at the intersection (back street) while in drive, someone had to get them out and pull the car over. Lord only knows what they were on.

Yeah i think thats the reason why he did it. To my defend i am not a big car guy and all the cars i do know from my personal experience diden´t needed it. I also just now discovered the starlink satellites in the sky while sitting outside which was also quiet interesting to see for the first time.

Good morning, the situation here is not so good, our life here has suddenly deteriorated so much that it has a direct impact on our health. The 3 main reasons are: the new neighbours (here we ironically call them "Investors") and the lack of peace-sleep from them, the unusualness of the dogs on the balconies and the fact that they get dirty on the side-walk (here things are not organized as in other countries) and all 3 are Lockdown and the restrictions we had from the state-police (only we, not the "Investors").
I have gained weight, my blood pressure has increased and I am generally not in a good mood. I do not smoke or drink coffee as before, I have stopped modifying pipes and uploading material to my blog. I try to improve my quality of life as much as I can but it is extremely difficult with so many restrictions, I also can not complain because the system is deliberately made that way.

@Sid.Stavros, I'll be thinking about you. We seldom can foresee if things will get better or worse, but they always change. The sense that anything (cherished or loathed) remains the same is an illusion unique to humans. In Athens, where the cultural depth reaches back thousands of years, the rate of change is no slower than in any other large city.

I suppose that your "investors" are preferable to the military waves of conquest that Greece has successfully resisted over the eons. My remedy for a disruptive, new neighbor is to give them a welcome gift, and learn about their family and their previous home. They likely struggle with change as much as I do.

So after some time and many virginia flakes i smoked some burleys again. I was not that impressed with university flake but today i tried old dark fired again and it was better for my taste.
The only slightly downside is that the flakes are so hard pressed that you think you are dealing with wood when you load your pipe.

F9984069-B8D0-4BD8-8190-C8FCDFA9CBA1.jpegShipment came in, and I was able to do some tasting; I enjoyed them all. One was a bit strong but nice, one was soapy at first but settled in, one was nothing to write home about, and one had two bowls that I thought was above the others; take a guess….

Does this include the tin of nightcap hiding under the other 4?

I grabbed several ounces of sliced Brown Bogey, out of the freezer, today. It comes wet, and drying it helps to get the flavour. I find it burns hot as Hades if I dont pack it well, or smoke a bit too fast. The stuff is strong. Its made of fire cured and dark air cured. I enjoy the strength of it.
I have some pounds of WLT fire cured, dark air cured, and flue cured Virginia red leaf on the way. I look forward to smoking the different straight tobaccos without the goop.
I want to make some ropes one day, but for now I will just play around a bit blending the tobaccos, and see how things taste.

I received the dark fired ,dark air cured, and flue cured red Virginia, from WLT
I have smoked them all, pure, in a pipe. And I've tried a few mixtures. I found the Virginia, by itself) very tasty and sweet, and surprisingly well behaved, though still a challenging smoke. It may be the absence of casing and toppings that helped it burn cooler than commercial Virginia pipe blends I've tried.
Half and half dark fired and dark air cured is my favourite, so far. It burns nicely, is very tasty and is super satisfyingly strong.
Half and half Virginia and dark fired is a real taste treat, inclined to burn hotter, requiring a touch more restraint in smoking, than I care for. It tastes so good though, that I may have to train myself.

The lack of goop on/in the tobacco, resulted in better burns, and my being able to smoke a bowl down to the bottom, more often than I can with most commercial blends.

I am shocked (but not really surprised) by how good all this tobacco is.

Christmas 2018 (from "Blend Your Own Pipe Tobacco") that I blended and pressed into a cake on March 13, 2021. Tried it for the first time today...it was a really good smoke to take a drive with.
