Really nice looking, what’s the gauge on that one?

Been a while since I’ve had a cigar, or rolled one -2021 hasn’t been very forgiving. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to roll a cigar and try out my new 54 gauge mold. Normally I prefer smaller cigars, but the a nice cool burning big ring gauge stick can be just the ticket on some occasions. This mold was made for “cannagars”, and I am honestly impressed someone could palate a 54 gauge “cigar” of what this was made for.
Anyway, the cigar was:
50% CV black ligero
50% pelo Del oro seco
Double VA binder
Corojo wrapper

Was a nice smoke, started out a little spicy but transitioned to a pleasant smooth flavor. Last third was kind of intense, I think less ligero on the next one. Wrapper is a but splotchy from applying it too wet.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. The gauge is 46. Normally I would never roll that fat, but it was just a vision I had for that blend. But I found the thickness unpleasant between my lips and right now I've got 10 bunches of a similar blend in a 35RG mold, which is more my deal.

55FE54C5-EF68-4578-A5E2-4116EC2BB3DE.jpegFirst batch in a couple weeks bound up. Blend was chosen by my better 1/2. Wrapper needs a little more time in casing chamber before applying.

Wrapper: will be WLT Besuki (lighter/ more fragile wrapper. Very large! Wow!)
Binder: WLT CV PA
Filler: 1x WLT Peru Ligero
1x WLT Rene Viso
1x WLT Rene Seco
Ring gauge: 43

Will post wrapped picks most likely tomorrow

I'm with you on the size of the stick and mouth feel, I usually taper my 46s which helps a great deal with that. It's not that my tapers are always intended, they just seem to work out that way and I prefer the smaller ring gauge for that part of the stick so why fix my faulty rolls? I have recently worked to get better at making the parejo shape with a mold, but still fallback to my tapered heads readily.
I still have a couple sticks that were gifted to me from 2015 because the ring gauge is so big...

Fun fact: The number two (after the US) location of viewers of my Youtube cigar videos this year has been...Indonesia. Canada was third.

Another fun fact: I had two TikTok cigar rolling-themed videos each do more than 66.6K views in one day.

You really are the guy b. think of who else is out there. take away the guy who goes and shoots at a wedding or something and what is left? Yanko was pretty steady there for a good while. Bobalu was fun TU, classic detail. You really are the guy. I'd like to see Felix do some stuff yeah? I think he would.

Wrapped up the “GF blend”. Lol. Excited to try out. Learned/implemented 3 things that I may or may not have known before, but tried anyways.

#1 WLT Indo Besuki wrapper… is outstanding! Thin and fragile, but huge leaves! Casing up I noticed that once I thought it was ready, I waited a few more hours and it ended up perfect. I dig the aroma and I know I mentioned fragile earlier, but when brought up to useable case, they have a nice stretch & strength as long as your a little more gentle with it. Very similar to the Brazilian Connecticut they used to carry.

#2 After doing the initial wrap of the body and twisting the end by the cap, using my “chaveta” or something flat to help flatten and adhere to the binder. It also helped get rid of some seams & parts of the lamina (I think it’s called) from sticking out.

#3 Even when using round cap molds up to this point, I’ve had an issue with the cap side being more ovalish than round. When I add the strip before the final cap, I have been cutting down any excess up top and flattening more. That way the last & final cap can be a little more uniform & nor bunched up.

GF Blend:
(All WLT choices)
W: Indo Besuki
B: CV PA
F: 1x Peru Ligero
1x Rene Viso
1x Rene Seco
43 ring gauge mold.

I think webmost is the guy, with like a million views on his rolling video. And Mak, too. But for shear quantity, ya, I have them beat. On TikTok there's a Cuban dude in Moscow who does events and he's the king on that platform.

4CC322BB-86FD-4E65-A42A-953FD6B0A778.jpegBound these all up on Xmas Eve. Been rotating here and there. 10x 52 ring gauge on left. 8x 50 ring gauge on right. 2x paper wrapped dolls that would’ve busted out of 52 ring mold, so wrapped them up.

Next steps is to check on the wrapper leaf.

Blend is from WLT Terroso Profundo kit (https://wholeleaftobacco.com/product/terroso-profundo/)

*Pretty decent blend on nicotine strength, aroma, & flavors.

These all have:

Binder: WLT CV PA

Filler:
50% WLT Corojo ‘99 Viso
25% WLT Criollo ‘98 Ligero
25% WLT CV Dom Seco

*Did some initial head & foot trim, but may need to shape up some heads a little better.
