Much of Ecuador's cigar tobacco is grown in the Quevedo Valley of Los Rios Province. Most of the valley is only about 200 feet or less, above sea level, and surrounded by steep hills and mountains on three sides. It is tropical: temp 67-80° year-round. It's so cloudy there that direct sunlight is limited to 2-4 hours a day.

That is reassuring to me... My tobacco has endured partial shade this summer, getting only about eight hours of direct sunlight... Michigan, believe it or not, has been far hotter than those temps, and much drier than normal, this summer. Everything looks healthy; I'm crossing my fingers that the tobacco tastes as good as it looks once it's cured and fermented... My "Pennsylvania Broadleaf" (varietal unknown) has grown over six feet tall in a few instances, with the Havana 263 towering at seven and a half feet or so...

I call the blend: Los Rios Picante “El Timador”

Right stack is filler blend “V1”
Wrapper: Los Rios
Binder: Vuelta Abajo
Filler: 2x T-13 Viso
2x Peru Seco
1x Peru Ligero

Left stack is filler blend “V2”
Wrapper: Los Rios
Binder: Vuelta Abajo
Filler: 2x T-13 Viso
1x Peru Seco
1x Peru Viso
1x Peru Ligero

3 white band sticks are “scrap sticks”

Blends are very similar, so there may not be a noticeable difference. We will see! V1 is ~50 ring gauge, while V2 is ~52 ring gauge.

Edit: All tobacco is from WLT!
I'll try them both and let ya know! :)

Finished up some Davidoff “The Late Hour” Knock Offs. I bound up 2 different filler blends previously with 2 different wrappers. These are filler blend #2 w/ WLT Ecuadorian Maduro Wrapper… Does anyone else get a slight marshmallow aroma from the Ecuadorian Maduro wrapper, once brought up to “medium-high case”?

My local lounge while I'm on Kauai. This roadside joint is in Anahola.

While there I typically enjoy an Island Prince, made with (some unknown amount of) Kauai tobacco, which I believe is grown nearby in Kapa'a.

The dude who runs the joint gives rolling lessons/demos, and sells some of his rolls. I didn't dare ask about the laws pertaining to that. The barrel of leaf he has on display seems to be CT Havana of some variety.

I bought some Island Prince in a supermarket. I really enjoyed them. I wonder if WLT could get some of their leaf. Seeing as its domestic, it might be less complicated?

Yeah it's a surprisingly primo cigar.

That's a good question, about scoring some leaf.

Speaking of complications, they have to send their leaf to Nicaragua to be fermented and rolled before it's shipped back to Kauai to be distributed. Manufacturing taxes/fees/licenses and all that usual jive.
