due to the rain-fall we had in my area, for 4 days straight,,,,, the mosquitio's are real bad right now, and my baccy patch has a wind breaker, of 50+ tall cedar trees, bordering it,,,,,,

and the mosquito's are in them trees real bad,'' if you go in my patch'' you get ate up.

so im gonna go into town and get some '' off'' sketter spray, and do much more picking today,,,,allmost all my older burley is ready to go,

i may get one more line in the shed pictured, but it's time to start filling up the next shed,,,,,,,,and then the '' baccy camper''

and when thats full, i may use the 2 tobacco barns i have acess, to....

looks like the second, crop i strted at a friends house, may have drowned from standing water, im gonna go over there today and give it a looky,

more pic's tonight,,,

Chicken, for mosquitoes try the ladies moisturizer "Skin So Soft". When I was in the handyman business I used it all the time and it works! As an alternative I have been told if you put a sheet of fabric softener like Bounce under your hat band or in back over your neck it will keep the critters away but I never tried it. The Skin So Soft is better than "Off" or "Cutters" by far. If you get accused about smelling like a lady just SMILE and watch them scratch and bitch.

John,
A number of published studies have shown that Skin So Soft is "somewhat effective," but only for some people among the test subjects. For others, it did not reduce the number of bites. DEET at 50% has been demonstrated to be "very effective." Increasing the DEET concentration served only to increase the length of time it was effective, but not its effectiveness during that time. (These were published ~7 years ago, and I've lost the references. I'm sure a Google search would turn up the studies.)

"Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus" contains Picaridin, which is rated as "very effective."

Mosquitoes are initially attracted to CO2 (breathing animals). Once they are close enough, they follow the odor of the animal to locate a place to bite. Apparently DEET works by smelling "bad" to a mosquito. I would guess that Skin So Soft works by the same mechanism.

Here's the straight poop from the CDC: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/mosquitorepellent.htm
AND: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/yellowb...es-ticks-and-other-insects-and-arthropods.htm

So, I would recommend DEET at 40-60% for serious mosquitoes. This concentration of DEET is NOT recommended for small children.

And it smells bad to us humans too! It's rather interesting that Skin So Soft has been used as a bug repellent for quite a long time now. Initially the manufacturer (Avon?) was adamant in their literature that it WAS NOT a bug repellent. I guess the bean counters finally saw the error of their ways and changed their mind.

Chicken, One of the best deterrents in the world is to smoke when you go out to your patch.

well. i tried some dried Y.T.B. today...

i wouldnt say it was totally ready, but a friend wanted to try some, so i grabbed some that the mid-rib was barely dry,

i smoked one, a lot harsh,,,

but after some kilning, im sure this will be a good smoke, all by itself,,

the shed is filling up nicelly, using all my space, and going in between the rows, i may be able to bundle it all. in one shed,,,

if it fills up too much,,, i'll hand a lot of it thats done browned,..

Chicken;
In one of your posts you said that you had some white stem Burley. Was that from the seed I sent you?
