If I may call on the collected wisdom here for a bit. I have a problem brewing, I have a pest that is new to me. The photos aren't great, but I think there's enough detail to do the job.

Any ideas of identity and treatment? Under a magnifier they appear to be a beetle.

If they jump away, when your fingertip approaches, then they are flea beetles. Flea beetles can usually be recognized by multiple pinholes in the leaf, which I don't see there. In the enlarged image, they resemble brown aphids. So, if they don't jump, I'd say they are aphids.

They multiply fast. They dont make holes but when they get on the leif it hard to get them off so you have to smoke them.

I am totally infested with brown aphids on some plants. Both sides of the leaves. The sticky resin on the leaves must not have any nicotene in it because they aphids are in hawg heaven on the tender shoots. I sprayed a few times and hosed them off a few times. Seems like they leave a plant finally.
I also got a few flea beattle signs in some starts still in cups. looks like someone peppered it with birdshot. Havent seen the culprits tho. The aphids dont seem to be doing much damage . Leaves are not puckered.

Can you please copy paste this beautiful tobacco or at least hot wether? Congrats dr.leverhead.

Thanks Max! The transporter is broken down again. Be careful what you wish for, this weather isn't to everybody's liking. It does make the beer taste good.

They'll actually make a mess of your leaves. They will secrete so much honey dew that it will drip onto the leaves below ,coating them with a black tarry substance. Probably not a big deal if its cigarette tobacco but it will ruin your day if it's cigar leaf.

Also at a different age wont they turn red ? Or is that a different type of aphid? Last year they were both on my onesucker more than any other and the red ones were the worst to kill.

Are you talking about these?

This picture is from early July last year, they're just showing up again now. I think that's their eggs in a row.

I am betting that isnt their eggs. Imagine Mrs Bug would be sorta "blown out" in the reproductive end :(
No amount of "take-up stichs" would help that.
those dont look like the aphids I got. Not fat enuff. Will take a pic in a few.

No those look like leaf mites. Here are the red aphids aphida.JPG

View attachment 5349 I use cyanara from southern states to get rid of them You have to spray both sides of the leaf to get them because they'll run under when you spray just the top. they leave little spots on the leaf that really show up after its cured

I wish I had taken a picture of BarG's last year. It was late season and they were beautiful, with nice yellow leaves. You'll see, I would almost call them an ornamental.

Some of my starts had a few leaves like that (little holes eaten in them) it was stink bugs. I hate them and love them (easy to catch).
