Re: Leverhead's 2013 T Patches

Is there an advantage to replanting over letting the bottom sucker produce a plant?

Howdy Knucks,

In 2011, we had hurricane Irene come through Virginia in late August with 85 mph winds. It destroyed most of my plants by snapping them in half. Devastated, I just let the garden go and much to my surprise a bottom sucker grew and produced some nice sized leafs in the next two months. Normally, I wouldn't let suckers grow and divert there energy away from growing the largest leaf possible on the main plants. But this year it surely was a great blessing!

It's not a two headed calf, but I thought it was interesting enough to post. At first I thought it was some kind of a funky sucker, but it's Siamese leaves. The smaller leaf looks as though it grew out of the main stalk upside down.

I heard the Devil was heading North a couple of weeks early this year. No steroids, the ground was broken from grass. That's it! The Turkish seems happy here.

It's been a good week, the rain has given everything a reason to grow and for me to do a little bit of clean-up. I did a group photo from the other end of the patch, I like all the green. The variety's are in the file name, hover your cursor over the photo for that info. The cat has agreed to help me with the harvest in the tight spaces this year.

Thanks guys! The Turkish leaves seem to do more moving than breaking, so there's still hope. I was standing on this side of the patch, taking a break. It looked nice enough to take some pictures, the fence on the other side is too close to get a good view.
