I dont use much moisture when getting my wrappers prepped. It is becoming easier to wrap, seems more natural to no have a soggy wrapper.

Depends on:
1) Which leaf?
2) Which shape?

A parejo may skate by with an almost dry San Andres, whereas a figurado will do better with a thoroughly damp CT Shade. The one merely has to lay flat, where the other needs to stretch over a shape then shrink down tight.

I have noticed that about the San Andres too. I love that wrapper. Mind you, I was already a big fan of Casa Turrent.

Anyhoo, three quarters of the cigars I roll are at work where I only have a few bags of tobacco, I usually don't have a spray bottle, and I intend on smoking immediately. I find the Nicaraguan Rosado is pretty handy in medium case too, so it's my work wrapper.

Here are some from my new Torpedo mold, only thing was I had to be at work for 48 hours while I left them in the mold... didn't have time to finish them.

Just shy of measurements to be a Lonsdale about 6.125x 42. But close enough for me.

Vuelta Abajo Seco
Vuelta Abajo Binder
Sumatra Wrapper from binder stock.

How are you liking the Vuelta Abajo leaf? How does this blend turn out? Interested to hear as each time I smell the VA or Sumatra they both are fairly distinct.

I'm hoping it is ok, the Sumatra is older from stock that @webmost sent. I used only 2 leaves of filler and we will see how they interact.
I have new Sumatra binder that is more fragrant. So it may only work once unless the two mellow in their own right some.

If you fire one up soon, let us/me know! Interested to hear your perspective how they “marry” together.

So, since I have a pipe, and some end trimmings. I stuffed those into my pipe and sparked it up. It was nice and a little peppery. Mind that I have filter installed with that pipe so it's not 100% representative. I will probably enjoy that blend when the cigar comes ready.

Hmmm... Good call on tasting the blend before putting it all together.

Hi all,
my sticks look wrinkled if compared with commercial cigars (my ones are the 2 leftmost).
I also see the work of many members that are shiny, oily and smooth (@MarcL's work is impressive to me).
Is there any point that is to study/practice better between:
. smoother bunch (I use molds with a good pressure)
- wrapper case (I use them after one night in a bag with light fog of water inside)
- Stretching the wrapper ( I think I stretch it enough ...)
- dry the sticks slowly (???)
- just keep on doing it again and again and ....?

Thanks for any hint

I’m just seeing the veins of the leaf on yours. Is that what you are seeing?

What we see as "shine" is a narrower specular (the brightest area of a surface). Rough is inferred when the specular area is more spread. I would suspect a slightly higher wrapper case, along with a tiny bit more stretch will improve that.

On the other hand, your cigars likely have a better draw.

Also try to cut your wrapper narrower. The temptation is great to use as much leaf as possible, but you will end up fighting to stretch it and get a clean edge that disappears when it dries.
the pros generally use a narrow strip from the center of the wrapper leaf. This eliminates a lot of the thicker portion of the vein closer to the stem. Watch some of Wakikigun’s videos and notice how he trims his wrappers. Most of us that roll our own try to use every bit of smokable tobacco where the commercial sticks aren’t as concerned with waste.
