My Izmir Ozbis...

Izmir Ozbas !

Actually, I'm not happy with correcting misspellings of the varieties but I think it's very important to write them correctly. Otherwise, a name may turn into an unidentifiable "thing" over the years.

There're some contradictions in varieties' names in FTT Seed List, some of them may be because of some members' inattentions. For example, there's a Canik with a TI number of 1644 and also there's a "BSS Canick" (which is misspelled with an additional "c") without any numbers. "Canik TI 1664" was donated with an enough info. As you know the TI numbers providing a lot of info about the variety from GRIN. "BSS Canick" seeds was donated to FTT Seed Bank too, I'm not blaming the donor, may be he received the seeds named like that from another member. As everybody can get, this issue may cause chain confusions.

Please keep your records with care. I'm using a ready excel document which contains infos like; variety name, origin, class, GRIN number (if available), donor, year of donation, additional notes, etc... If everybody keep records with care we can get rid of these confusions.

This is my general wish, not related with a specific member.

Good luck with that one.

Where all the weeds at?

What's the spacing on those plants? Looks like you're going for an authentic Turkish grow.

What are weeds? We don't have weeds in Texas:) According to the book of instruction, a hoe keeps them under control.

The spacing 15 3/4" row to row and 3" plant to plant, it's the traditional spacing. Stay tuned for the rest of the story.

I'm sorry! I took the name off the seed package. If I could edit the post I would change it there, I've changed the name on my drawing.

Good luck with that one.
I completely agree with Emre. Spelling of varietal names is critical to maintaining a seed bank and trading/selling seed. I have corrected Izmir Ozbis to Izmir Ozbas (one of three wishes to be granted to Leverhead). [Do you want the oil added?]

I don't think any oil is really necessary. There are a few names that bother me, "Black Sea" Samsun, Ottoman/Ottoman HY and (H)erzegovina Lecce MI 411. Is there any good way to clean it all up? The (H)erzegovina Lecce MI 411 is the only one I've found the history for at GRIN. I'm pretty sure Emre wouldn't mind having the type classifications looked at either.

Thanks Bob for cleaning up my mess!

keeping acurate records is VERY IMPORTANT. there are so many typos and mistakes that were passed down in the germplasm collection records over the years. i probably spent 6 months combing thru all the old records i could get my hands on trying to sort things out. i should double check the FTT seed list to make sure the names are correct with the updates.

Here's some overhead and side pictures. The pictures are named, so hover your cursor over the picture. I think I've got the spelling right:)

Here's an overhead of the Bitlis, I think it's kind of a cute little plant.

Speaking of this there is a misspelling in the FTT list. Criollo Saltono should be Criollo Salten~o with the '~' above the 'n'. It means from the province of Salta in Argentina.

That is called "n-tilde" and is ALT 0241 or ALT 164 depending on your system. And now just to make a liar of me my system refuses to to it but I have in the past successfully.
