Yesterday I tried one year old cigar from my humidor.
Delicious.
Strong medium bodied, earthy and dry but smooth.
I was looking for pepper taste in the end but there wasn't any. I was pleasantly surprised. Adonis is another strain that I like.

Habano 2000 wrapper...

Beautifull cigar Maks !

Funny coincidence : I rolled my very first Adonis puro today (only a few hours ago) :D
In fact, it's the very first cigar I roll from my 2017's crop !

I made it with some leaves I removed from my kiln yesturday (they have about 3 weeks of kilning, I am sure they can stay a bit more) : a mix of volado, seco and ligero (binder : seco, no wrapper)
I will smoke it soon, but for now, its smell is not "cigarish". In fact, it smells "tobacco" (that's already a good thing :D ), it's sweet (I detect some kind of fruit, I would say citrus, I am astonished... I didn't expect this kind of perfum from a dark air strain... but why not ? :) ), it's appetizing !

Adonis is a very nice strain, it grew very well in my garden, no disease, big nice leaves, cured easily, I am eager to see how it smokes !

It's finally happened. Deluxestogie has successfully launched the Heavy. To everyone's surprise, his very own red, 1995 Buick will orbit in clouds of cigar smoke for at least a billion years.

The two side boosters have successfully landed in his humidor. The fate of the main core is unclear at this time.

A Tenth of a Second!

Garden20180209_3377_cigars_10thOfSecond_600.jpg

Research published today in Current Biology seems to indicate that we make a judgement as to the value of something in less than a tenth of a second after seeing it.

https://medicalxpress.com/news/2018-02-brain-assign-tenth.html

If I were to see the above selection of cigars in a tobacconist's display, I would decide (incorrectly) the relative quality of the individual cigars, in less than a tenth of a second.

I say "incorrectly", because that assessment would be based entirely on the external appearance of the cigars. That includes the contour, texture, and color of the wrapper, as well as the non-cigar components, such as cello wrapping and the prestige, color, size and complexity of the "band".

But those not in cello are well known to me, and in great detail, since I handled and individually selected each of the leaves that went into their construction, and I know who rolled them (me).

As many of you know, I place little stock in putting a marketeering finish (flawless, smooth wrapper, or a triple cap, or other factory practices) on my cigars. While these features are important to me in deciding to purchase a stick from an unknown torcedor, they are completely meaningless when applied to my own cigars that I intend to smoke myself. I make a little more fuss when preparing cigars for a gift (e.g. the two on the left), since the recipient will be making that 10th of a second judgement. But for my own use, form absolutely follows function, and I don't care much about how they look to a stranger who won't be purchasing it from me. Besides, I'm not all that skilled at creating a factory finish.

Bob,
That Bolivar Gold Medal is a hard to find cigar demanding a stout price on the secondary market. I've had one and found it to be a solid cigar. I would be interesting in hearing your thoughts when you smoke it.
I got a single when they first came out so I paid MSRP not the inflated price they demand now.

That Bolivar Gold Medal...
I think that may have been less than a tenth of a second. That Bolivar was a generous gift. It's likely to be a while before I smoke it.

So...you're not interested in my thoughts when I smoke that dark, groaty one, next to the Cohiba?

I always look forward to your impressions of cigars because you include the tobacco used in them but the gold medal is one I have smoked so it helps give your other comments scope for me.
