From a learning angle, is there a way to recover from here and still do the cap ?
Yes, in fact that is how it is done on premium cigars in Cuba. Just cut an approximately 70mm by 20mm (3"x1"?) piece with a curved side and flat side, shaped like an extra long lemon wedge. Just wrap it around the head with curve towards the foot and then you can add a round cap.

Edit: For visual reference you can search "triple cap" on the forum with the "titles only" box checked.

Knocked out a long weekend’s worth tonight. Never got far enough ahead to let them settle before smoking.
Rolled some more, including a cigarillo of a big Ecuador Madura cutoff and scraps of mostly wrapper and Sumatra binder. Talk about a kick! Better save more filler scrap next time.

I seem to be getting a hang of it, though piggytailing the cigar is still not very clean. But got this beauty (eye of the beholder) rolled up today. The biggest one i did so far. 48x6.5",

also got all the scraps together from the rolling of last 4-5 sticks. Rolled them into a binder. Did not waste a wrapper on it and smoked as is. It looked like crap, but smoked better than all the wrapped ones i made so far

PS: Had wrapper scraps also mixed in with filler and binder scraps

Cleanup of the 1st WLT kit. All scraps put together into a beautiful 3.5" x 60 stick. Filler is all scraps(5 diff tobacco types- the whole kit). Binder is one half of CV Dom Seco filler and the wrapper is the other half. Had to moisten it a lot for the filler to become pliable enough to bind and wrap. Possible light up in a couple days.

This officially finisher my 1st WLT kit. Including this, about 23 cigars . All of them, different sizes and girth. No two were the same :)

Bound up just shy of a dozen scrap filler sticks in the rolling machine last couple days with Habano 92 wrappers that had too many holes in them. Wrapped up these scrap sticks with the Habano 92 wrappers that were less holy. Realized my prepped glue from a few weeks back had a fuzzy spot in it. Chucked the glue and decided to improvise and make some pigtail sticks w/o any glue.
