Pretty bow.

I found that making a snug knot with tobacco "string" required me to attempt it repeatedly, using "strings" of different moisture levels. Too dry, and it breaks under tension. A little bit dry, and it won't tie a snug knot. Too moist, and it tears apart like tofu.

Thanks. My strategy was to take a piece of secondary vein (high case) with a bit of the leaf still attached and twist it up. Worked first try, somehow.

Three different methods here for wrapping the foot of a saloman/ perfecto/ imperfecto from left to right.
First, one piece (not counting the head): definitely the trickiest to get right. You have to somehow tuck in the top at an angle and roll in an arc while keeping enough tension to keep the wrapper snug but not so much that it tears. I was somewhat successful with a few wrinkles but fairly snug fit overall.
Second, one piece, failing to make it snug I wrapped it more or less like a parejo and added a small flag after the fact. I wasn’t happy with it so used a cute little bow to disguise how loose a fit it was. I like it a lot and I’ll probably do it again.
Third, two piece, flag first. My attempt to replicate the first method failed so I put a flag on first (remembering @MarcL because he told me how to do it) and then trimmed the wrapper to have a nice “line” around it and wrapped parejo style.
This is my first time using a mold so I am curious to see how these burn, assuming I have the heart to torch the delicate little bow…

Don't be wearing a nice sweater when you light that cute little bow.

Bob

EDIT: Using an 'S' shaped wrapper on a cigar pointed at both ends, I found that, starting at the foot, I had to lift the head end to about 45°. Then, as I wrapped into the taper of the head, I had to gradually lift the foot end. The lifting allows the immediate portion that is engaging the wrapper to be roughly parallel to the rolling board.

As long as it’s not a polyester sweater it should be okay…
That’s my approach too, though I am still fine-tuning the exact shape. I think the challenge is getting a nice snug and clean fit. Even trickier with the rounded foot and the (toe?) sticking out.

I’ve been doing some burn quality testing. Not perfect but I am pleased with the results so far. The one with the bow started off a little choked on the knot side but evened out nicely soon after.

Clove Hitch:

Faster than a bow, easier, secure hold, uses less "string". Loops 1 and 2 are identical, then loop 2 is crossed over the top of loop 1.

So thought of trying out some more shaped cigars and planned to buy the mold. But then decided that the money is better spent in buying leaves instead. So here's what i ended up doing. These wont definitely sell as torpedoes, but it did scratch that itch :)

It’s a new vitola. You can name it Philips, like the screwdriver :)

Well, I finally did it. I can’t call these imperfectos as I broke down and bought a perfecto mold, 4 1/8”x48-46. I imported it from Germany and I can hardly believe the quality as there is just some minor damage to one of the ‘male’ dies.
I blended these on the strong side nicotine-wise to compensate for their Lilliputian proportions.
3-4.5 piloto seco, 1 corojo 2006 seco, a good sized hunk of Nic. ASP ligero (I use ASP for bite; just ask Cleopatra), Sumatra binder (my favourite binder), two of them wrapped in Equador corona (very potent), one wrapped in SAN Andrea.
