Yabbut... what's this robusto have to do with little ones? That's a full sized 52 ring 5 1/2" cigar. Nor is it intended to be mischievous.

I just think it's a good name for one of your sticks, that's all. Has a nice ring to it. I guess leave it up to the smoker if they're mischievous or not

I think rustic wrapper is so much more interesting to look and hold than uniformly colored/textured stuff. The first three here are actually the "Sumatran binder" from WLT. The second three are Cameroon from some other outfit. Same filler in both, a Dominican/Nicaraguan attempt at maintaining flavor while dialing down the strength of the pure Nica filler blends I've been doing lately. Part of that strength might be the Corojo oscuro wrapper I've been using, which I find is very strong. So I'm changing gears here.

This thing was killer. I ended up tapping off the ash at two inches so it wouldn't fall on my smoking.

Haven't been able to roll for a bit after going through a big move and then battling Viral Meningitis. I was able to get some blending advice from Nick Melillo (formerly of Drew Estate and now has his own brand). 1/2 leaf corojo seco, 1/2 leaf Nica Habano seco, 1 leaf corojo viso, 1/2 leaf Dominican ligero, Dominican binder, and PA broadleaf wrapper. I had some Nica ligero I was going to add into the mix but the bag became infested with beetles.

Those look amazing.

It's awesome that you were able to get that recipe from "Nick R Agua."

Did he give you any clues about which leaf/seed those Dominican leaves are? It's interesting that he included Dominican in this blend suggestion since his new Foundation stick is a Nica puro. Was he just saying, "Try this, it's a great blend"?

I hope you are fully recovered from the VM, or fully recovering.

Knuck, the top one is the blend I texted you about yesterday with the San Vicente in it... went with Corojo wrapper .
The other 4 are blended as follows - 1 Criollo 98 viso, 1 Nic Hab viso and 2 corojo viso , dom binder , only difference between bottom one and the rest is the bottom one is Ecuador Maduro wrapped. Corojo wrapper on the top 4.
I'll post the rest of the top ones leaf blend after I try it .

BTW- I really like the new 7 x 50 mold. nice straight barrel with rounded head.

Nice looking sticks.

Curious about your opinion on the Corojo Wrapper. It does smell great, but I had some, but it seems real thick, and have had burn issues.
I have a few sticks resting with them. After several days bad burn issues, and after 2 weeks, still acted quite flame retardant.
They been sitting for almost 4 weeks now, so going to try another one.

The most pertinent quote from moscca's link, for those of us with burn issues for this wrapper:

"One problem with Honduran Corojo is that it is nearly flame retardant. You can always expect to have burning problems with this leaf."

I have actually decided to give saltpeter a try on this leaf, 16:1 water to
KNO3 in my spray bottle. I really like the taste of the wrapper but the endless re-lights is ridiculous, so I'm experimenting.

Well those sure are beautiful, SH. I'd like to have seen some closer-ups on the cigars themselves in that same lighting.... Nice job.

I like the corojo as to how it lays . Yeah its a little bit on the non stretchy side but its thin and looks nice, smells nice, compliments flavors with criollo98 well usually. Adds a nice cuban taste combination . I don't use it very often as I found I prefer the Ecuador Maduro hands down much better than any other wrapper out there . I may try an Ecuador Shade and see if it has the same stretch characteristics as its darker brother. I'll tell you the wrapper I really don't like ,maybe it was just the batch I got ,was the Aleman Oscuro. I had high hopes when I got it thinking I was going to add just a little bit more chocolate taste to a cigar. I tried it to wrap the last one of the ones in the picture. It just basically fell apart before I even got the stick on it, not much strength or leaf structure at all. Looked like a hotel washcloth. Even in a rested full wrapper case , just a big disappointment and a mess. I still have a few left in low case but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them. So, instead of getting a three way choice of wrappers to choose from on the same blend ,I only ended up with two.

I wonder if by chance the corojo leaf soaked in a nice rum would improve the flammability . If I have issues when I smoke these, I'll try a rum casing ,rest it and try again. Theres a 3 year old distillery just in town that makes excellent rum and tequila - if I may give them a plug , its called Tailwinds Distillery located in Plainfield ,Illinois. Owner and his sons who run it are all private airplane pilots , occasionally they take celebrities as charters. I've seen pics in the place of the owner with a nice stogie in his hand more than once. After my wife ,myself and her aunt and uncle went for a 2 hour tasting(and all of us very impressed) , I've thought about doing some friendly horsetrading with a few home rolled sticks for a bottle ...or two.

Well, those recipes in the old-timey books actually call for mixing saltpetre, port wine, and "alcohol" with water. And IMHO tossing some rum into the spray bottle has never hurt anything. I'm starting out with straight saltpetre tho, just to see if I can detect any flavor/aroma of saltpetre when I burn a test leaf.

Yeah that Corojo oscuro is the most "Cubany" leaf I have tried.

If I order a bottle or two from Tailwinds I'll be sure to say Smokin Harley sent us. That is your real name, right? ;)

Yup! Those are beautiful cigars, Smokin Harley.

When I have a beautiful, but fragile wrapper, I make sure that the binder does all the work of compression. Then I wrap the friable wrapper as though it were a sheet of Jell-O: smooth, flat and gentle, with no stretch.

Thanks Bob, ...a sheet of jello ...you sir have an interesting way with words.
Actually though I had a hard enough time just trying to get the wrinkles out , like its on the border of being compost. Um...like trying to unfold cheap wet toilet paper without ripping a hole in it while having the hiccups with a drunk man driving on a bumpy road .
