Figured I'd try my hand at rolling some Perfectos. I don't claim to be very good at it, but they draw tested beautifully. I'm used to rolling longer sticks (7x47 Churchills), so I'm afraid I wasted (well, contributed to my short filler bag) tobacco than I'm used to. Just need practice.

Also, getting the S curve in the wrapper to accurately wrap the sloped ends just right is... Frustrating.

As much as I'm sure I'll enjoy this, I'm thinking I'll go back to regular sticks.

As long as you trim the edge and the wrapper isnt too wide it doesn't have to be cut perfectly.

OK, so finally got a chance to sample one of Darin's Special Sticks, and I must say that I really enjoyed it. Nice contract between the spice of the double wrapper and the dark chocolate notes of the Corojo. Thumbs up to Darin (y)

I make wrappers for all my cigars so that after aging in the humidor I don't have to try to remember what each stick contains or have to look it up. If I like a blend, I simply keep the wrapper after smoking and roll some more. So I made a batch of wrappers for my latest batch of rolls using some of my 2018 crop. I also made a few for Darin's stixs. (Couldn't really tell what your avitar is, so I had to guess some sort of smoking cat. Hope you like your custom wrapper! :))

Nice! :)

Do you print these on regular paper and then use a dab of cigar glue?

~Darin

I used to, but now I just use a small piece of clear tape to close the tube of paper around the cigar. It allows the label to slide freely up and down the cigar so I can put it where I want while smoking and easily slip it off if I want to keep it.

Today I tried out two cigars made from last years home grown crop. I rolled them about 6 weeks ago, and they've been mellowing in one of my humidors. Couldn't stand it anymore and decided to fire some up and take them for a ride. I made a strong rum and coke to console myself in case they turned out like burning dog turds, and a year's worth of effort wasn't worth a S***.

Thankfully, I was worried for nothing! While they both could benefit from further aging, they were a lovely pleasant smoke. I am very impressed and happy with results. :):):) There definitely seems to be a theme with floral notes in both blends, which I am putting down to the Farmer terroir. Here are the two blends with my notes. (SF indicates home grown tobacco)

FarmTest1: Notes - Light floral notes, with body of milk chocolate. Subtle flavors, smooth and pleasant.
Wrapper: Equadorian Viso
Binder: Dominican
Filler: SF-Lancaster
Filler: SF-Little Dutch
Filler: SF-Havana 263

FarmTest3: Notes: Black Pepper and dark chocolate. Occasional hints of sugar on the tongue. Slight floral background.
Wrapper: SF-Lancaster
Binder: Ct Broadleaf
Filler: SF-Lancaster
Filler: SF-Comstock Spanish
Filler: SF-Havana 263
Filler: SF-Glessner

Rolled some Churchills tonight. Much more purdy than the Perfectos from last week. I saw a thread from ChinaVoodoo (I think, don't quote me on that) recently about a proper triple cap, complete with diagram. It's really taken my cap (which was the weakest part of my cigars) to the next level.

1x Dominican Ligero
1.5x Criollo 98 Seco
1x Criollo 98 Viso
PA Oscuro binder
CT Shade ('06 crop) wrapper.

Only thing I'm not a huge fan of on this blend is the binder. It's a little on the thick side for the rest of the tobacco, so the burn feels a little off.

I'll dry box these a day or two, then pop em in the humidor. Probably try one tomorrow, one next weekend, and then forget about em for a couple months.

Finished rolling these last night. Blanks were box pressed overnight, then wrapped in Ct. Shade.
Sigh... One day my rolls will be as purdy as Marc's.... One day. On the plus side, I was watching Downton Abbey while rolling these, so Fun! Loved the after dinner port/scotch and cigars every evening. Good times. Anyone ever see a young(ish) Julian Fellowes (the writer / producer) as a Scottish Laird in Monarch of the Glen?

Anyway, I digress.
Filler - Equal parts Lancaster Leaf (HG), Little Dutch (HG), Lonnie's Havana (BB), Corojo 99 (BB), Criollo 98 Viso (WLT)
Binder - PA Obscuro (WLT)
Wrapper - Ct. Shade 2006 (WLT)
In the dry box before cellaring in the humidor. Can't wait to try these in a couple of months.
